Hello Amiga community. I am all alone out here in Phoenix. It seems that all the Amiga guys from 30 yrs ago moved away or died off. There is no clubs or groups located out here anymore for me to contact to guide me back into Amiga. This is the only forum I have found so will be posting many questions on how to do things. I purchased a restored recapped Amiga 1200 with a 8 GB CF card pre-installed with Amiga3.9 oS. I purchased a new custom built power supply from a recommended Amiga EE guy. Also, purchased a new ACA 1233n 40Mhz Accelerator from AmigaKit USA with the floppy install disk. New PCMCIA disk adapter with another 8GB card to transfer files from my windows PC. All viewed on a Sony 15" pro CRT monitor from a TV station.

I keep getting stuck trying to install everything and hope people help with advice on my threads. Nice to meet you all.

Welcome, StylinLP38.

You're not the only one from Phoenix, Az, so you're not exactly alone. [waves] And, while I don't know if Ferrels is located in Phoenix, I believe he is in Arizona, so...

If you need any help, just ask. I'll help the best I can... :)

Active youtubers/Streamers, altho a few of them are focused on the FPGA side of it.
The more legacy amiga streamers are Modern Vintage Gamer, MsMadLemon and Dan Wood.

Thank you all. Great welcome! In the last few years I have watched all of the amiga streamers Modern Vintage Gamer, MsMadLemon and Dan Wood. But it is not a great format to ask technical questions. Most those video's assume you know what they are talking about. So it is not a good way to learn. I accidently learned what .LHA files are by watching a 30 yr old Amiga tutorial on YouTube. I'm on the CLI chapter now. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2fBvRBTmCzI

I'm having a very hard time figuring out the very basics. I cant get my floppy drive to see the files on one of the floppies that Amigakit sent me for the ACA accelerator card for example. Studying like mad to figure out what WinUAE is and that I need Kickstart ROM v3.1 and that I have to buy AmigaForever. I cant just use the PCMICIA USB adapter I got for my Windows 10 computer to download files and transfer them to this PCMICIA card then insert into the Amiga. Currently watching dozens of confusing youtube video's to get it to work. But Amigakit did send me a floppy with a program on it called ADAPCMCFL. No idea what to do with that yet.

So I'm basically drowning with no direction to start relearning Amiga again. My new Amiga 1200 has been collecting dust the last two months while I Watch youtube video's. It seems that my Amiga is already preinstalled with absolutely everything. Anything and everything you can download and buy. I have it already from the previous owner. I Just don't know what any of it is and if a lot of it is the current version. Like the drivers for my ACA Accelerator card.

I successfully installed the new ACA accelerator card and have 128 MB of RAM. But I don't think I have the latest drivers installed. THey seem to be older.

What is funny is that I have 20 years experience entry to high level IT support. Its what I do for a living lol.

THanks Number6. I signed up with Amiga.org last March but that site will not allow my account to post. Says I do not have any permission and I have sent two emails to the admins. I will try LemonAmiga next. Thanks :)

@EDanaII

That is great there is another Amiga guy still left in PHX AZ! I used to know so many back in the day. Used to go to the Phoenix Highschool at 19th ave and Thomas for the monthy Amiga Club meetings. I remember over 100 people would show up for that. Wish there was still a club here for hands on show and tell. So many icons and apps on this amiga that I have no idea what they are for lol.

@StylinLP38

If you're trying to see files on the floppy using your Amiga's Workbench, you won't see the files unless they have an associated .info file as well. I suspect that if you open a command line window and type "list df0:" without the quotes followed by a return that you'll see the files you're looking for.

WinUAE is an Amiga Emulator.....think VMWare or VirtualBox except WinUAE is for running virtual Amigas instead of virtual PC's.

To read CF cards on your A1200, I recommend this: http://aminet.net/package/disk/misc/cfd

To read CF cards on your PC I recommend a USB to CF Card adapter. They're all over eBay really cheap such as this one: USB CF Card Reader

I wouldn't waste any time or money on AmigaForever. You can download the ROMs you need just by Googling for the ones you need. The copyright Nazi's on this site will lose their minds over that statement though.

I'm not from Phoenix, but down in Sierra Vista, AZ.

My advice: Go buy the latest "Amiga Forever" from Cloanto and be done with it. Amiga hardware is a money pit.

He already has an A1200 with accelerator that is running and he is trying to get it all lined out....I suspect he's trying to use WinUAE to partition and set up his boot drive for his real Amiga. That's the recommended route unless you want to do an OS3.1 floppy install on real hardware first, which is a PITA.

@ferrels

Thanks ferrels. Right now I am watching a youtube video on how to configure WinUAE.

I order a number of things from Amigakit.US. Both items you listed below. I was searching Google for a Amiga 3.1 ROM while writing this.

Send me your email address via PM and I'll show you where to get the ROM unless you've found a working one already.

It shouldn't matter where he gets his ROMS. He has an A1200. He's entitled to 'make a copy of them'. Who cares if that's by proxy. ;)

I have several disk images myself. If you're hung up on getting set up, just starting one of them might be helpful...
