| Hi
Is there any kind of power supply apart from using a PC power supply to power a PC cdrom drive. I have had a look but can't seem to find anything. Molex to small single cable pay would be nice. Amiga cdom like squirrel are well expensive _________________ A1200 ACA1232 128MB Indivison MkIICr Elbox empty Power Tower RPi3 Emulating C64 ZX Atari PS BBC Wii with Amiga emulation Vampire v4 SA |

What kind of CD-ROM is it? Converters such as that aren't common by themselves, though modules exist if you wanted to DIY a small power supply. But if it's a recent enough drive, you could probably use the Amiga's own power. 5V and 12V are available from the external floppy connector, or could be spliced from the internal floppy power connector. I've run an A1200 with such a setup before on the standard power supply and it's been fine.
Alternatively, invest in a PicoPSU and an adaptor for the Amiga. This will replace the existing power supply and also provide a couple of drive power connectors, and the whole lot (drive and Amiga) will run off a small 12V power brick. _________________ RobTheNerd.com | InstallerGen | SMBMounter | Atoms-X |

| Hi
I tried powering it from the floppy drive power. It powers but does not seem to have enough guts to open the tray. I'm using standard A1200 heavy PSU.
CD Drive is just standard PC ide drive for 5 1/4 bay.

Seems to be a little power-hungry then. You might have better results splicing onto the internal floppy power connector, but ideally you'd really want to use an external power supply. _________________ RobTheNerd.com | InstallerGen | SMBMounter | Atoms-X |

| Hi
Sitting in my office at work today thinking about the CDROM problem I turn around and see my old external CD-ROM caddy. Perfect I think I have found the solution to a cheap Amiga external CDROM drive. I will take it back home tonight to try it out will just need to cut a little notch out of it for the IDE cable to come out of.

Gotta be out there some where as my friend bought me a portable power adaptor for molex one year. Plug one end into power point and other into drive. Very handy for testing drives and when you need to power a drive externally.
Unfortunately mine burnt out and I haven't replaced it. I had it checked by a friend who thought it wasn't that well made internally.
Right now using innards of an old external portable HDD enclosure as salvaging another an IDE HDD. A CD version of such enclosure would help best. |
