@Yogi27

hmm... IF mai was dead, I'm not sure it's TOTALLY bad, that would force (well, hopefully, in a perfect world) Amiga Inc to think different, and make AOS4 happen on another platorm, and that would hopefully mean a bugfree more up to date platform. I wouldn't mind seeing AOS4 on the pegasos for example, not saying that the Pegasos is all up to date either but, you get my point.
I'm just not so sure AInc is all that intrested in AOS4 at all though :/

@Tomas

If mai logic is really dead, as rumours in other sites suggest, then unless someone bought the design for the Articia chips and decided to start manufacturing them again you've got about as much chance of buying a SID chip as you do an Articia northbridge.

I *really* hope Alan's silence is a result of him looking for alternatives and not wanting to spook prospective business partners.

I hope Mai is ok. We need argently a new Northbridge like the Articia P and a new AmigaOne (XC).
If AmigaOS 4 is released we need a good AmigaOne board in a own Amiga like Box.

The newer IBM PPC's have a northbridge built into the CPU, no need for MAI.

@nicholas

Now all we need to do is to *not* put in a VIA southbridge and we should be good to go

Actually, I remember reading some discussion (could have been anywhere, I tend to browse all over the place) where the possibility was mentioned of making a modern motherboard without a southbridge at all. If you limit yourself to USB, ethernet and IDE, apparently there are discrete chips that you can buy in small enough quantities to be worthwhile for the hobbyist (ie you can buy them individually or lots of 5 or 10). IIRC the reason why we ended up with the 686B is that this was the only SB that Mai could get in small enough quantities.

@CodeSmith

The nForce4 chipset supports PPC970.

Seriously.

Think how nice that would be with a big fat 970 inside it.
