This is directed mainly to the people at Hyperion (Legends, legends, dead set legends![*]), but others are always free to stick their oars in as well.

Is there ever going to be the capability within OS4 to update the UBoot chip from within the cozy confines of OS4 directly, or is it going to remain as is? I'd like to be able to update from within OS4 as it gives the chance for an all-in-one update script for UBoot and the SLB and so on, with a reduced chance of me screwing things up.

[*] This post in no way suggests that David Boon or any of the members of 'The Late Show' who worshipped him are in any way, shape or form associated with the development, distribution or promotion of OS4 - BUT THEY SHOULD BE!

You need another one to play when the computer is actually ready to use.
Maybe add more for malfunctions and then we'll have music all day.

@DJRJ

There was/ I seem to remember a news item, or forum about just such a contribution to OS4. Not officially part of the OS but provided by a developer.

Which was a commodity to adjust all the UBoot settings from within OS4.

Trying do a search for 'uboot', the thread should show up.

@Swoop

I don't think he's talking about making changes to UBoot variables but rather flashing a new BIOS. I may have misunderstood him though.

@AmiDog

Yes, I meant updating the BIOS, not merely playing with the variables. Sorry for the confusion.

It's being worked on it, but it's currently unstable.
More news as the situation develops....

A sidenote: there are about 40 people working on OS4 that ARE NOT Hyperion. So I suggest to you and all others to refer to us as "the OS4 team" rather than "Hyperion".

If you prefer you can call us "the crazy 44!"

@AV

what I need is an OS4 equivalent of the dd command.
means that once I've decided on the partition to put the UBoot image, I dont need to go to Linux, and totally confuse myself with a combination of different partition nomenclature, and generally double checking these things !

You are right, Andrea. We all should give credit when due. One suggestion to the webmaster: why don't you add a new user status called "OS4 Dev Team", with five read-and-white boxes and assign it to the "crazy 44"?

Just a thought.

No, you don't, just setup your A1 for real multiboot, then you can have as much kernels on your disk as you like
Of course, then you could say that you would need an ext handler for OS4
But I would bet there are already dd like tools on Aminet, I remember that there was a device that would allow you to mount your disks like a stream so you could simply copy the image to the partition.

Ciao, Alfred
