how does the 7000 fare ?

As it dose not support hardware AF or AA the first option is as good as it is will get.

It’s is still a big jump forward from a Blizzard Vision or in fact most other Amiga graphics cards, but if never going to compete with a £300 ATI9800 Pro or other such second or third generation GPUs.

@Agafaster

The Radeon 7000 (a.k.a Rv100) is identical to the R100 and the Rv200 with two exceptions:

- It does not have a T&L unit
- It does only have a 64 bit memory bus.

The former is not an issue right now because T&L is not used yet (will be in a few, though, meaning the Rv100 is at a disadvantage).

The latter is an issue right now and in the future, because it essentially makes things slower (due to the limited bandwidth) - up to 50% for fill-rate critical stuff. Usually this can be somewhat compensated by stepping down in resolution.

Otherwise, the Rv100 has the same features, including the anisotropic filtering and three texture units.

Yes the 9800 is a very nice card I have a 9700Pro in my PC and I purchased it when it fist came out more than 2 years ago and I am very happy with it.

Being able to use AA and AF without any slowdown is very nice but I expect that it will be a while before hardware AA and AF is supported on the Amiga.

@poweramiga2002

Drivers for the R3x0 based cards are still quite some time away (that is 9600 and 9800).

Next thing on my to-do list is the R200 driver, i.e. for cards from 8500 to 9500. That driver is already started, although it will certainly not make it into the update 3.

@Rogue

Isn’t the 9500 a cut down version of the 9700 Pro which is R3x0 based? or has ATI been recycling there model names/numbers again like they did with the 9700 model number for laptops their laptop cards which is not the same as the desktop 9700?

No idea, really. It depends on time and other factors.

@Null

Yes, you're right. As usual, I was mistaking the 9500 to be an M9(+), but the M9 is RV250/RV280, and that is 9000/9200.

Almost impossible to keep track

@Rogue

Thanks for these informations.
Anyway i suppose that R100 dirvers will work also on R200 and R300 gpus but withour using the new features.
So newer card will be more speedy anyway (higher clock, more ram...) even if the full support will come lter. Am i right?

There is an Alais Variable in the Mediator Warp3D drivers. Does this do anything on Voodoo4/5 ?

Ta, but I'm not really at a disadvantage, seeing as there is (currently) nothing running on AOS4 that could make use of those features, and my monitor will only do 1024x768 !!

Sorry as I don’t own a Mediator or a Voodoo4/5 card I can’t help you.

No. The GPU's aren't compatible. Meaning you cannot use the R100 driver on an R200.

Sorry...

Great, both games I started to play on my 603e but have had to stop myself, just because I want the pleasure of completing them on my A1.
Thanks
