Hi,

I'm now busy porting an SDL version of Heretic. The sound doesn't work at the moment. When that is fixed I'll release it.

See the screenshots:

Screen 1

Screen 2

Screen 3

It's running at 640x480 in 1x1 pixel.

After I have finished this port I will update UHexen with 1x1 pixel support.

Edit: I'm only able to work on it in the weekends so I guess a couple more weeks.

@PulsatingQuasar

Excellent! I loved that game! I think I got into it before Doom, so I've always had a soft spot for it!

You do know UHexen has a bit of problem with getting stuck halfway in the ground on the second level?

I know. Can you try this version?

UHexen

hi!,

I have played uhexen ( not this version, the one on os4depot.net ) but i found a problem and i cannot know how to solve the problem.. the author tell me that the problem is in the .wad file but i have 2 original copies of the game and on the pc them work fine..

the problem is that at a certain point of the game you cannot continue because the game doesn't open a door that let you continue on your quest, while on the pc it does..

The author tell me that there are different version of the wad file and it depends on that, but why on the pc works fine and on the amiga not ?

Is heretic based on the same engine ?

As i said before i 2 versions of the game, the first is the full price version with soundtrack on cd, the second is the budget version..

@PulsatingQuasar

Tried it, nicer screen display, and it's got rid of the Mouse spinning the wrong way around, V. nice!

Still get's stuck when you transport on level 2...

It's when you first go to level of Ice, and the 4 columns bounce up and down, then stop with a dagger "shadow" pointing to one, enter it and your stuck in the floor.

There's no restart level thingys that you could have collected by then, so that wouldn't have worked..

Hmmm.. remind me if there are any casper cheats, maybe that'll get me out of the hole??

To answer my own question, the noclipping dosn't work, in fact, well, try em yourself, NRA and Satan are "fun"!

Code
Effect
BUTCHER
destroy all enemies
DELIVERANCE
turn into a pig
CLUBMED
max health
INDIANA
full load
INIT
restart
LOCKSMITH
get all keys
CASPER
clipping on/off
MAPSCO
show entire map
MAPSCOMAPSCO
show entire map and objects
NRA
all weapons (duh.)
KILLS
displays count in deathmatch mode
SATAN
invulnerability
SHADOWCASTER0-2
change class, pick an integer 0-2
TICKER
count frames
SHERLOCK
get all puzzle pieces
VISITx
jump to level x
WHERE
X,Y coordinates

These are Hexen codes, not Hertic BTW.

@Stephen_Robinson

It's the same mine problem, the difference is i cannot go on because the game doesn't open a door and you remain stuck...

the problem as the author said is in the Wad file.. but how can you check it ?.. and how can you find the right one ?.. i have two copies and them don't work.. BTW i have to test this new one and then i'll tell how it works.. and i have the saves game ready

Awesome game -- the third 3D FPS I played after Doom and Wolfenstein.

@Stephen_Robinson

I don't seem to have this problem. I played it about 2 weeks ago and could simply pass this part!

It's either because of a certain situation( e.g. character, difficulty, stack size) or it's in the data files.

I'll E-mail you.

@PulsatingQuasar

Now with this version , i remain stuck in that part of the game, where you open first door and you arrive in the room with sword in the ground and after the ethereal travel you are blocked in the ground..

With the previous version i hadn't that problem..

Please send me an E-mail. It's in the readme.

Let's see if we can sort this out.

@PulsatingQuasar

hello, I've E-mailed you, but I thought I'd also write on here to stop people sending your the same information/any other thoughts:

"Okey, as I say, it's when you play the second level, and you enter the
Guardian of Ice for the first time. You walk into aroom where the floor
collapses and you get attacked by orcs, pull a switch and the 4 columns
start bouncing up and down for a few seconds, then stop, with a bright
sword on the floor pointing to the one you need to step on, step on that
and you get transported back to the seven portals, but stuck half way in
the floor.

It seems to be the bit where you pull the switch to reveal the second
weapon.

It does that with all 3 types, and on a least 2 different difficulty
settings, altarboy and the second hardest Warror.

I've tried it with the stack-size at both what it cames as, 1000000 and I
tried changing the 1 to 5, did it both times. And the file system is SFS,
although I think it did it with FFS too..."

And Finally, I'd like to add, don't worry about it, keep working on Heretic I! then come back to uhexen!

Anybody that wants to try Heretic can get it now. It's not quite finished yet.

http://home.tiscali.nl/programming/heretic.lha

Couple of command line options:
-fullscreen
-window
-mode 640 480 (this is default; resolution up to 1024x768)

The mouselook support is jittery and needs to be taken a look at. But let's face facts, it's no Quake or other real 3D game so it's pointless. These type of games work best with keyboard only anyway.
