I am not a 3D expert, but I guess porting Q3 is gonna be a tough ride: requires multitexturing and probably T&L. (We do have multitexturing as I remember correctly.) I hope the Bros. going to add T&L for Q3 into Warp3D... _________________ Álmos Rajnai |

See the screenshot. QFusion fully renders Quake 3 maps at the same level as Quake 3 itself, so I guess the performance is comparable.
The version you see does use multitexturing (no T&L, that's true), but it does in excess of 40 fps on most standard levels on a Voodoo, so it's not really that bad.
We used this engine as testbed for the Voodoo and Radeon Warp3D drivers, and MiniGL... _________________ Thomas, the kernel guy

I´m sort of confused. Is the game screenshot from the game you recently announced called Quake Evolution or Quake Fusion? Or are ther two things in the Pipe?
Sorry for the question but what circa "frames per second" could we expect from a A1 XE 933MHZ G4 with the best supported gfxcard (please let us know which one that is,or would be) under warp3D/ minigl?
Is it a Radeon 9700/9800 ? What about the Radeon x600 series ? Is there a chance?

Uh, actually there's nothing in the pipe. Both Quake 2 Evolved and QFusion are really just "hobby" projects. They are used as testbeds for the 3D driver and MiniGL development.
The reason they aren't available is that they still have bugs. QFusion for example uses OpenGL clip planes for the portals, and this feature doesn't exactly work yet.
In addition, both games have relatively high polygon counts, and use advanced features like stencil buffering and destination alpha... you see, perfect candidate to test your drivers

That's a bit hard to say... most of the time, the speed is around 40 fps in the standard Quake 3 levels (full details). This is on a Voodoo 4, in 32 bit. Unfortunately, the Voodoo 4 slows down tremendously when using 32 bit, but some of the effects require stencil buffering and destination alpha, which is not available on teh Voodoo 3 or the Voodoo 4 when rendering into a 16 bit target.

Is it a Radeon 9700/9800 ? |
No, a Voodoo 4. As was said before, the only Radeons we currently support are R1xx or Rv1xx based cards, that is all Radeon 7xxx.
Ahem, a bit off-topic, but here goes:
Hans-Jörg is working on the R2xx/RV2xx support right now, and is already quite advanced with it (that is, all Radeon 8xxx and 9000, 9100, 9200, and 9250)
We also intent do make R3xx/RV3xx (Radeon 9500, 9550, 9600, 9700, 9800).
No idea yet about the R4xx (i.e. the X-Series stuff).
Note, though, that Warp3D development will be dropped in the not-too-distant future in favor of a direct OpenGL implementation, i.e. instead of doing OpenGL->Warp3D->Hardware, the future will be OpenGL->Hardware, without a Warp3D layer in between (a Warp3D wrapper will provide a Warp3D.library based on OpenGL, then). The reason is that we do not have time to adequately designe and maintain our own API anymore, and we have more freedom when implementing the driver as OpenGL (T&L and shader support would be possible with the R200 driver, but Warp3D doesn't support it and can't be modified to support it without horrible kludges)._________________ Thomas, the kernel guy

That's because you don't have a frigging clue without even the excuse of being norwegian

Maybe the Q3 engine code and the ET tool source can achieve that, who knows...Last edited by EntilZha on 18-Aug-2005 at 02:37 PM.

| I just took a look at Quake 2 Evolved... and it do look fantastic. So you are actually running Quake II Evolved on A1. Now that is something to look forward to as well. While the game is great "as-is" that type of gfx would make it much more atmoshperic... |

Oh how I wish I could've been there... But I was on a trip with my friends so I missed it. But I guess there is no way to get that version for the moment? Also, are there any pics from AmiGBG showing it? |

Thank you for the detailed infos behind my gfx card question.
As for now we A1 owners (SE,XE) have 3 levels for gfx-hardware upgrades.
1. it would be the best to stay with Voodoo 4 (I got one : O ) ) or Radeon 7xxx because the first drivers are mostly ready/ released for 3D accellerated known games/apps. 2. later on buy a Radeon 9250 because of T&L and shader support in the not to far to come future games 3. Buy a Radeon 9800 for the more advanced games Hyperion (and maybe others) bring to our beloved platform in the future when drivers/opengl implementation is finished.

Do you know how the built in Radeon in the uA1 would fare in comparison? Would Q2Evolved be playable for example... |

No, since then, we'd get questions like "why does it crash all the time" and I don't like to answer that right now... sorry...

Voodoo 3, 4, 5 and Radeon 7xxx 3D drivers are available in update 3.

Just because it's the highest number Radeon doesn't mean it's the fastest card. In fact, the 8500 should be much faster.

Probably.
I would advise not to buy anything until we officially release it, though... the R300 driver might take some time, I don't know..._________________ Thomas, the kernel guy
