I have replaced the FDD in my A600 as the one in there was starting to be problematic, even after cleaning (probably alignment or wear to the heads). Anyway, because the case has been weakened I have to glue it down. This time, I used a seriously strong glue as I did not intend to open it again.

Now it will not boot (probably the 030 board has come loose) and I will not be able to get into the case without breaking it I doubt.

I might sell of the entire project and concentrate on the A4000 as I don't really want to spend any more money on the A600.

Anyone have any suggestions or advice let me know.

Unless I start a paypal "get the machine running" fund raising-type-thing going, I will sell you the card or ebay it no worries. Just spent too much money on this to keep doing stuff. It really needs this one to be a prototype and another to improve on mounting, but I am not spending another 400-500 ish pounds on a ECS Amiga.

* rubs it on A1200 face with a song * And here had an Amiga 1200 * background music * and flung her to the trash as she looked at him with poppey eyes and tears trickling down her keyboard * sad music * but A1200 did not look twice and went to the old rusty lady Amiga 600 who could not give him what that beautiful Amiga 1200 did * drums * but A1200 did not look twice to the broken hearted Amiga 1200 and he spend money, money, money, money, money , money on that old geazer and at the end she deceived him and stabbed him on the heart * background music stopped, audience clabbed, and foody points a finger at A1200 ( not the middle one ) and laughs, laughs, laugh, laughs *

I could probably dig out an A600 you could have at postage cost.

@yoodoo2

You are the second person to offer that. I will work out how bad it is, and if I can improve the build then I will get back to you, via PM or on this thread. Cheers bud.

Ouch - bad luck! I had an almost similar problem with my expanded A600, where everything worked fine until the case was put back together. Extremely frustrating!

Even without the offers of A600 donations, I'm sure that you should be able to pick up an A600 case or two from some of the current advertisers - although I'm unsure how much they cost...

Good luck with the machine, though!

I am sure you can get a fortune for an 68030-specced A600 accelerator. People go crazy for these things on Ebay.
You could advertise as "A600 with some hidden treasure - who will manage to break open the treasure chest?".

@The_Editor

I would surf over to vesalia.de's webshop and put a brand new case (top and bottom) and a brand new keyboard, in the shopping cart, for only a few squids.. Then brake-open the glued case with my biggest monkey-wrench while mumbling on whining poetry about lost love (mi amore, mi amiga...)...

@kidkoala

I have decided what I am going to do!

Ebay.....

Tonight I opened the case and took it all apart. It worked straight away. It was either the HDD cable or FDD cable or might be the new FDD I bought. When I got a chance to test it, noticed the same sporadic read errors with the new internal drive. I have 3 theories. 1: bad luck, I have 2 bad drives 2: faulty drive cable 3: i am running a no-click so it may adversely effect OS3.9 (turning it off or trying another/tweaking settings would prove this.

Anyway the basic thing is II work with computers and don't need the kinda stress of messing with this machine at the moment, so I will sell it for someone else to fix up and enjoy. All works spot on, all you have to do is sort the internal disk drive (it worked with case off and with old drive) and re-case it (keyboard is fine), as the case is pretty worn out.

You will get everything you see on amiga600.net except the installed software as I want to keep my keyfiles for my A4000 and I do not currently have the OS3.9 CD as I sold it with my CD32/Promodule project. So you get:

A600HD
HDD (formatted)
68030 CPU with 32MB and FPU
3.1 ROM
Philips CM8833MKII
External FDD
CD Drive
IDE Interface
1MB Extra Chipmem with Battery Backed up clock
Mouse
Joystick
Workstation
Mouse mat
802.11b PCMCIA Wireless card
...oh and both internal floppy drives (one brand new)

Someone please continue this project, as you will see from the website, the machine is stable and will give you a lot of pleasure, I just don't want to do any more to it.

The domain cannot be included as it is my email address!

Few ideas:

- IDE cable connector on the back to make the CD ROM interface more tidy.
- A600 clockport adaptor with Subway usb adaptor
- Scandoubler/Flickerfixer and a nice TFT display

Oh and the 68030 board is well attached so I would remove the mainboard and put the 2 in a new case (maybe even a nice tower?) without pulling it about too much!

I will post the link to the auction on AmigaWorld classifieds once I have created the listing.

Hell, maybe your prospective buyer could even put it in some sort of portable casing....

I seem to remember one being done years ago...:)

Ok being as I have to re-instate the old floppy drive to get the machine back up and running to format the HDD, I have decided to LEAVE THE SOFTWARE ON! That's right, even the keyfiles will be yours for things like Voyager and AmIRC.

I do not have a OS 3.9 CD so you will be responsible for buying a copy if you want to legally run OS3.9 as I sold my CD with my CD32 Promodule project a few weeks ago (see: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=98930&item=8248546654 ) and have not yet replaced it.

This move is down to laziness and the fact that 2 things will happen after my busy period a work ends: 1. Either OS4 will be complete when I am ready to do my A4000 up for general use. or 2: I would have bought a Troika Amy 05 board and sold my PPC 4000 (in which case look out for that auction!)

Check out the auction link on the classifieds section on this site's home page. Not long to go now.... only 2 days left. Any questions, please PM me. Thanks.

Still not getting rid of the domain name though! An @amiga600.net email address for the winner is the best I can offer due to emails I get to me on that domain.

Ok, not long now before the auction ends, and I have one last thing I can offer, just in case the winner requires. If you contact me as soon as the auction ends/payment is made, stating that you want me to get a new case from amigadeals/vesalia or whoever is cheapest, i will restore it to it's former glory. I will also diagnose why the new FDD stops the machine working (if requested) and proceed to:

a) Either send new drive back for replacement (only bought a few weeks ago) or

b) replace floppy drive with original one,

c) renew floppy cable or

d) it does work with the case off, so some simple steps to stop the cable being crushed might be all it needs (floppy power and data cable are the other way round on the new drive).

Not a bad offer, if you want the system fully running as described on www.amiga600.net

I will do this at no charge but you need to paypal me the money for parts, for the case etc. which we will shop around online for.
