I must say that i really was looking forward to Update4, and the R200 warp3D driver. Hoping it would be better and faster than the Voodoo3 Driver. But....

No, The R200 driver will let me run Heretic2, but it's slower than on the Voodoo3. in 640x480 it only gets 19fps in a simple timerefresh, where the voodoo3 board got 33fps. further more, the new Voodoo3 driver Don't work correctly with my board, and heretic2, So i have switced back to the update3 voodoo/avanger driver.

Glquake did'nt work to well on my Voodoo3 board, it works pretty good on the Radeon 9250 board, only that the lightmaps seems inverted. eg. there is lighter areas where it should be dark, and dark areas where it should be light.

OpenGL gears demo! have geometry errors on the radeon, it has sorting (z buffer?) problems on the new voodoo3 driver. but works fine with the Old Voodoo3 driver.

Shogo works as before on the voodoo card, but freeze when switched to the radeon9250

am i the only one with all these warp3d problems?..

im pretty disapointed, as i really hoped the warp3d system and drivers would be improved. but instead it got even more incompatible for me.

WarpTEST on the other hand works very good on both boards as the only program so far.

if anyone is interested, i could give a more detailed bug report, with pictures and the likes.

ps. @rogue: nice to see that the 8500 is not disabled in the driver. i did get some funny results running warptest and gears on that board. but there were some texture rendering though.

@LaBodilsen

Im very pleased here,
I have run Wipeout in 1280 x 1024 and it flies on my Radeon 9200,
Heretic 2 now works, looks great and fast in 1280 x 1024 where as on my old radeon 7000 under update 3 there were glitches.
GLQuake runs supper smooth,
Warp view is cool.

Problems:
I cant get any decent output with payback,
Shogo locks dead locks the system when turning to 3d renderer,

Strange:
That to run the newly released GLTron I have to run a program first like Warpview, otherwise running it causes a grey window to open and a deadlocked system.
Also Quake 2 wos version dead locks the system but if I run warpview first then q2 in minigl I get some sort of result. Ive got as far as walking on the first level and then it locks.

Anyone know if there is a way or got any ideas how to get shogo to run?
EDIT:
And also in the games ive mentioned how/ is there a way to display the FPS im gettin?
cheers

Shogo runs nicely in soft renderer and with minigl shogodemo runs in orange color. With Heretic2 I got "not enough memory". Maybe because most of it is virtualized.

@Fabio

I think you need the full version of H2 and the latest update.

I noticed that my system deadlocked every-time I tried to run a Warp3D program in window mode (using a Radeon 9000). This problem disappeared after I deleted all drivers except for the R200 one from the libs:Warp3D/HWdrivers directory. It looks like Warp3D is picking the wrong driver when starting in windowed mode.

This is terrible news, I can`t go os4 without Quake

iirc the r200 was designed to accelerate at 800x600 and up not at 640x480

can anyone confirm this.

@LaBodilsen

Just tried Heretic II and now it looks like it should but it's really slow! 13 fps on a time refresh at 800x600... It was faster on my a4k with a CSPPC 604e/233 and a Voodoo 4 (18 fps).

I only got an ATI Radeon 7000 64MB but still, it should be faster than the Voodoo 4. Also the CPU and the rest of the hardware is faster...

I think the problem for you guys is that you don't have INTERRUPT=YES set in the tooltypes of your monitor driver in Devs:Monitors/ and without that fullscreen modes will be terribly slow because the vblank timing is done via polling instead of using the VBLANK interrupt. So set that tooltype and it should be super smooth.

> am i the only one with all these warp3d problems?..

I have a lot of problems with warp3d on update 4 as well (with Voodoo3)...

gears demo: geometry errors like you described
glquake1: black walls; monster items and explosions not redrawn correctly.
quake2: transparent walls; monsters, items and playerweapon not redrawn correctly.
wipeout: can't select hardware renderer.
glsokoban: crash on startup.

Are there any setting for warp3d that can be changed?

I'm going to try my radeon 9250 next.

Kind regards,

Dennis

I dont remmember how I got registered heretic in OS4 or was it that i just copied it from A4000. I have ixemul.library onstalled but it just stops when I click proceed when it ask to register it. When I installed update it didn't run just said "h2common.dll is not executable".

Hey thanks a lot .. now it's doing 60fps in 640x480 on the radeon9250. thats almost twice the speed of the old Voodoo3 board.
BUT. it freezes after a short while when playing the game but hey, it's up to the speed i would expect from the radeon card now.

maybe a tooltype of this importense should be set a standard , or is it not set for compatibility reasons?

@LaBodilsen

I think it's not set by default for safety in case some strange cards have interrupt issues but might have been just a mistake, hyperion was really pressured to get update 4 out ASAP.

Make sure you have interrupts enabled in your Picasso96 monitor.

The Radeon 7000 is a 64 bit card, and it is rather slow. It is about half the speed of the 7200.

The same goes for some 9200/9250: They are 64 bit and have a much lower fillrate.

How should a monitorfile look like (Tooltypes)?

What should be set or unset in tooltypes?
Please show a copy ´n paste example

With update4 5 arguments are supported additionally right?

vsyncmin=
vsyncmax=
hsyncmin=
hsyncmax=
mode=

enything else?
