Just checked the web site and it says "Not this spring"?

Was looking forward to this project, anyone know what happened? Link

Lovely. Not a clue, maybe they think there's no point with KHTML coming, or it's vapor like most other Amiga things?

Dunno, but sorry to see if it's not coming..

I think it's just easy for them to know at this stage that it won't be ready in the next few months at least.

He posted in another thread on this site very recently, something about having been very busy recently. I don't remember exactly when or in which thread.

But at least it didn't sound like he'd given up completely.

Best regards,

Niels

@nbache

I am seriously looking forward to buying this browser.

It will not only be a crying shame but a setback for Amiga if Smithy has lost interest.

We need a new browser and I would love to buy one for A1! As IBrowse is so
cool to use but many things do not work anymore for me, I am quite fed up.

The banking etc. hardly works with some tricks but why are we set back with
a browser as We Have A King OS???? ;)

Amiga browsers suck big time. You can't do any websurfing at all. I have a laptop next to it since nothing, really nothing, I need to visit works. Only AW works. I am not talking about 1 out of each 10 sites is not working but all 10 of them. None of the new browsers will come out this year and Aweb and IBrowse will also not be up to speed with browsers of other platforms.

I'm surprised at the lack of an Amiga Mozilla port after all this time, especially with a bounty available and it's ports to other platforms and OS's.

@T_Bone

Why be surprised?

If anyone listened they'd know that Mozilla is a monster and the chance of a charity-funded hobby port is practically zero, even with thousands of dollars of bounty funds.

Just wait for KHTML/WebCore. Or even contribute to that! There was one major stumble in previous versions which was a reliance on Qt but Apple and Nokia have happily removed that.

There is absolutely no point in "competing" browsers for the Amiga, and especially not buying them anymore. Even Opera is free. You just CANNOT justify charging for internet usage in the 21st Century.

@T_Bone and all

The news of next-generation Amiga Browsers are a bit silent at the moment.
I hope to see the arrival of Paihia and AMozilla FireFox. I agree on many
of you that IBrowse and AWeb won't be able to cope with the standard
browsers on other platform, at least not for a long time...

What Amiga needs now, are completely native/ported browsers like Grande Paihia
and AMozilla. Other might come later..

We should have had better representation in Mozilla from the beginning, but too many people were making background wallpaper showing boing balls squashing penguins around that time to care about anything opensource.

One's always enough untill it's not. Why burn the bridges?

I think by "competing" you mean "commercial."

I can't agree with your statement of no websites working. Maybe it is the sites I go to. With Ibrowse I am still banking (Toronto Dominion). I search for my daughter(18) and son(9) for school projects and a little of this and that for myself. My peeve is that I can't use Flash on the Linux side.
My son can't play BattleOn on my machine is the biggest problem. It needs Flash 7 I believe, so he has to bargin with his sister to use her machine.
There are sites that I go to that seem to stop, but when I click on stop the what ever stops downloading and the rest of the site loads.

I have a fantasy that the Amiga OS will load on to the new PlayStation when it comes out and hopefully the Browser Sony includes will somehow magically work for us.

Looking forward to the new Ibrowse.

"Amiga browsers suck big time. You can't do any websurfing at all"

this statement, that i feel offensive toward the current Amiga browsers developers, is only your personal opinion.

Do you think that IB, AWeb and Voy team (if any) are all idiots?

Do you have a solution to this "lack of decent browser" that we don't know?

Oh, did I shock you?
Not that I don't care about open-source...It's just Linux that sometimes makes me sick. Open-source software that is intended to compete with M$ software on Windows and to be used by human beings is really good (and far better than m$'s)!
(Please note also that making that wallpaper was a bit quicker than porting "FiFo"... )

It's the truth, no matter how you put it. They are totally outdated pieces of crap by today's standards
and their authors know this.

V is dead, IB is under INCREDIBLY slow development (and even if the developer wants to correct me,
that's what I call having a release once every n years) and AWeb is going KHTML.

Yes, donate to the KHTML bounty, that is actually in a working condition and it currently migrating to
a newer WebCore codebase.

I am not taking a shot at the developers. Yes it is my personal opinion and yes Amiga browser do suck. I cannot do any of my internet stuff on Amiga browsers. Only AW is working. Maybe your sites you visit work but c'mon plenty don't work. I cannot use them for anything I do besides AW.

Nope. And I never said so but you seem to think I do. Don't put words in my mouth that I never said.

Yes, create one that does work with all the sites. Simple, eh?
