Hello,

a friend of mine have a big problem with his sound.
He has a AmigaOne XE and he tested it with a Soundblaster Audigy Z2 and a Terratec 5.1 fun.
The sound is with the soundblaster very fragmented, if he start warp3D programmes. With the terratec hardware the sound slow down, while Warp3D is active.
I hope anyone can help us.

@AmigaPapst

I've noticed a certain "stuttering" effect when combining audio with Warp3D in use. For instance, playing MP3s while the Matrix screenblanking is in, or playing Wipeout 2097.

System: AmigaOne XE G4, 512Mb RAM, Radeon 7000 32Mb, Terratec FM801.

@AmigaPapst

We are aware of the problem. However, there is currently nothing you can do about it.

Thanks for your reply Davy. Is that a driver, a warp3d or a other problem?
Can you say more about that?

It gets better. Use a USB mouse, open a program on it's own screen with moving graphics, play music. Now use USB and drag the screen up and down a bit, instant distortion.

Note this does NOT happen with PS/2 mouse (I have both connected). There's something hokey going on here...

@AmigaPapst

It's in any case not an audio driver problem. There is a 'fix' but it introduces other problems. To be continued I guess...

*bump*

Dave- any chance any info that's includes the USB/Audio/gfx issue I mentioned above in the 'known issues'?

@wegster

It's likely to be the same as every other audio issue, the VIA doesn't let go of the PCI bus when it should. And then there is the issue that it can't handle many interrupts per second. But for USB I seem to remember that update 3 didn't have this problem, so, so far for all theories...
And if new VIA- and Articia-less hardware also have this problem, we will know it's something else, but that's going to take a while to find that out I guess.

It's not a Warp3D driver problem either.

In a game like QuakeN (n=1,2,3) or Heretic II I can make it go away by using

gl_lockmode SMART

from the console - this will lock time-based instead of frame based and will dispell all audio problems. So what I guess is that holding the lock on Picasso96's bitmaps will produce the problem; it's now the question of finding out why this is the case.

PS/2 mice operate on interrupts. The USB mouse is task based. That is probably the reason why they behave differently.

Excellent, will try this, is there a generic way to set this for (mini?) GL system-wide, or?

I wasn't thinking it was directly a Ward3D issue, just sort of....another issue, somewhere.

Thanks for confirming, seems you can reproduce it then as well.

I have heard the Teron design PCI interrupt C is shared with Radeon 7000.
Do you know whether this is the case with all Radeon or just the 7000 in the Micro?

I wasn't aware of this, but it's not a micro issue either. Think about the emu10kx/ethernet issue which was 'solved' by changing from 1000 to 80 interrupts/second.
