Hyperion have confirmed that they will be available for IRC Q and A at Big Bash!

This could be very intersting, as the 25 questions with Amiga inc are also scheduled to be answered the day before.

Questions from People at BB4 will get priority over questions asked by those not at the event, however, questions posted in the public IRC channel will be passed over to the private Q + A channel (this is to prevent the high volume of traffic in the channel from drowing out the answers).

To start the ball rolling - please feel free to populate this thread with any questions you may like to ask

@Bobsonsirjonny

I wonder if there'll be any differences between the 2 companies' answers, any literary critics here?

(Sorry, just the side of me at play )

@Bobsonsirjonny

1. Hows work on getting OpenGL ported?

2. Have you managed to get docs for any PCI-Express ATI gfx cards?

3. Now that OS4 is mostly complete, are you guys doing non-Amiga work at the moment to help pay the bills?

(whoops i just created a blank thread, can a moderator please delete it?)

Note that it is not Hyperion who is porting MUI4.

Yes, I know, but they might know about version 4 for OS4.

@Bobsonsirjonny

Questions :

- Is OS4 port already started or planned to any of the new Hardware announced ? (I.e. Were you correctly approched and found a common agreement to enable this(thoses?) port(s?) ?)

- Is OS4 envisaged (or already ported) on anything other than a dedicated hardware (by dedicated I mean Amy, PV, Samantha, but also any hardware from Genesi) ? "Mystery device" excluded as we already know it has been ported to (oh, and BTW could you today tell us what this device is .

- Some time ago we heard about a firewire stack (by SG2 IIRC), is this still planned, is there any news regarding this ?

- On the same subject what is the current status of the USB stack (compared to the one in the update 4) ? is there any coming features (ready or being worked on).

- Do you have a timeframe for the next OS4 release (final or update), i.e. something like "by the end of this year" or "not before mid of next year" ?

EDIT: new question :

- developper wise, do you aim (in a near or not future) at an official C++ API layer on top of legacy Amiga API, or should such a framework come from third party ?

- Will the current ressource tracking functionnality be improved/generalized in further releases?

@Bobsonsirjonny

After new hardware starts rolling out and OS4 is offically released, how soon might we possibly get a version for PPC-equipped Classic Amigas?

@Bobsonsirjonny

In reference not only to the irc conference, but also to questions in general:

Quote:
This could be very intersting, as the 25 questions with Amiga inc are also scheduled to be answered the day before.

If everything comes off on schedule, indeed there will be a "news" overload
situation between AI, Hyperion, and BB4 and all events related to it.
Due to that possibility, I suggest one looks at formulating questions a little
differently than we would during the "slow" news periods.
Perhaps ask yourselves "Is my question one that I could just as easily ask on
any other day and still get my answer"?
In other words...is that same person available to you a few days from now and
does that question -really- have more weight if answered -that- day.

Also, I truly see Friday/Saturday as quite a challenge for those trying to handle the
information in a semi-orderly fashion at BB4, on irc, and on the AW website.
This applies to not only Friday/Saturday, but the days that follow.
Sincere thanks to BB4 & AWstaff in advance.

@Bobsonsirjonny
I have some questions for them:

1) What is the latest word on Mesa (OpenGL implementation) for OS4?

2) Has anyone approached you to create AmigaOS programming books for the 4.0 API?

3) What are your top 3 peeves in regards to programming on AmigaOS and how do you plan to address them?

Oh yes updated RKM or something similar would be damn so cool ! But not only something which describe the API (i.e. a book made of Autodoc) but something that explains the concepts behind and the good practise.
In France we once had a great book like this, it was called 'La bible Amiga', and basically was something concatening the Library RKM (for 1.3) translated into French and some chapters from 'Amiga Inside & Out' of Abbacus also translated to French. I think this really the way to go as it's really more interesting to read 2 pages explaining the concept of the Amiga lists than reading a summary of List oriented functions with...

To be fair, it's not just your question......

but I thought this thread was an OS4 developer q & a?

@Colin_Camper

Taken from the "news" heading:
Quote:
OS4 Developer Q+A IRC session at BB4

I see the area for confusion. This can be interpreted as:
(1)a session only for the developers to participate in or
(2)"The OS4 Developers (Hyperion) Q+A IRC session at BB4 (open to all)"

Perhaps it would be wise to clarify.

Questions:

1. If we (optimistically) assume that working hardware is demo'd at Pianeta, meaning that whatever is in the OS4 CVS right now will be "Done", what new features should we expect to see in OS4 over what we have in Update 4? (eg the slab memory manager, SNAP, what else?)

2. Do you already have prototypes (or at least hardware docs) of the Italian board, or are you still waiting to be able to port OS4 to it?

3. Whatever happened to the startup jingle? Will I be able to turn it off?

My question:

- What kind of hardware would you like for use with OS4? PDA? desktop? which features? which CPU speed? extensions?
