DopeFish posted a video when he is running MilkyTracker on
an Amiga 4000 through os4emu on morphos! And it runs quite ok.
It's insanity. :D

Enjoy!

Milky running on A4000!

Cool! It's quite funny, that the only way for "general public" with classic amigas to run AMIGA OS4 programs is to use MorphOS and os4emu...

@quenthal

Even funnier to note is that MilkyTracker is an SDL program and should be easily portable to MorphOS without need for the emulator.

@Samurai_Crow

The tracker can use CD-quality sounds in it, right?

@samos3.9

yes, but even more similiar to protracker/fast tracker II.
but if you know octamed, you'll get into milky in no time.

It IS
I thought i read somewhere here on AW.net that SDL things would be unusable and sloooow as hell on a classic machine runing OS4.

But if it works this great on MOS with OS4 emu it can't be any worse on OS4
Or maybe it can ?

Soon i HAVE to buy a BVision so i can use MOS on my 1200. Can't stand the whole waiting game any longer

That's exactly what I thought - and did: Although I have a Mediator (which can't be used under MOS Powerup), I got myself an extra BVision only for Morphos.
I also couldn't stand that waiting game anymore and the fuzzy statements of Hyperion regarding the Classic PPC version of OS4. ("low priority", "will be worked on after the version for upcoming new hardware", etc.).
Go for it, it's really worth it and fun to use. I have just a 040/25 on my BPPC, so the change was quite impressive to finally have a PPC-native OS on my miggy. And yep, thanks to OS4emu there is a good possibility that you can run a good number of OS4-only software.

Today I looked in the mirror and I already got the impression that my skin colour had changed slightly... From beige to blue?

@WOSPUPOS4

Luckily, a BVision shouldn't cost you a fortune on ebay. It's a close fit since there is not much space left between Mediator and the LED-header where the Bvision can fit into. My tower looks extremely crammed now, you can hardly see that there is still an A1200-mainboard sitting in there somewhere... A lot of duct tape, but hey, it works!

@Samurai_Crow

Porting it to mos would probably be easy, but MilkyTracker is not opensource and maybe they don't want to distribute their source code to several different groups of developers.

pfffft. Why would you want to use a FT2 clone when you could use an Impulse Tracker clone instead?

Sure. I'll even give you a cool .it file from this musician named "Legion" to try.

Seriously though, I never could get used to the FT2 interface. ST3 and IT forever!!

Is that skin-disease dangerous? Any experience with that

I have an A4k with CSPPC and Mediator, of course.
I read that you can't use Mediator with MorphOS.
On the other hand I read that there is an "Amiga compatibility box" in MorphOS - a kind of Amiga emu.

Shouldn't it be possible to have the Mediator stuff running inside this Amiga emulation environment?

Yes - I was deeply disappointed when I read in a H.J.F.-post that OS4 for classic is still missing an installer and still has no native Mediator support (although it should be possible to run the Mediator stuff JIT emulated).

Didn't he and his brother repeatedly tell the community that the OS4 version for classic PPC equipped Amigas would be "on par" with the A1-version?

Was it just a lie?

...

I really would love to give MorphOS a test - but I dont want to buy a GRex-maschine for this purpose - and even if I did I still could have no USB.

Cybervision/Cgx is no problem - I still have those from the time before I got my Mediator.

But maybe there is a chance to "persuade" the MorphOS coders with a
"PUP Bounty for MorphOS"
to support the Mediator ...

@Dandy

If the Mediator could do DMA directly without using the memory of the gfx board, Mediator support would be no problem. I can fully understand if the OS4 developers don't want to spend their time supporting such braindead hacks. I for one would not have liked to create Mediator specific versions of all drivers...

Then why did they talk about supporting all commonly used expansions?
They did not say they want support all commonly used expansions except the Mediator - so I and many others expected native Mediator support.

And as to "braindead hacks":
The Mediator works flawlessly with OS 3.9/WarpOS 16.1 - so why should it not be possible to include support for it in OS4?

I don't care what kind of memory is used as long as it works that flawlessly!

Is OS4 inferior to OS3.9 in the end?

Or is it just because there are personal issues between the OS4 developers and Elbox (my impression), that they want to make us believe that there are technical difficulties to support the Mediator in OS4?
