| i have been searching for amistart tools, but can't find one place that keeps them all. In some forums, i also read that one guy made arexx script that changes the look of miami icon (depending if online or offline) for amistart. Is there a place from where i could DL extra stuff for this great program? _________________ May the force be with you... |

i remember that guy, he used the possibility of YAM to execute specified AREXX Scripts for actions like login/logout/newmail ..., either you can use the AmiStart AREXX Interface (ADDTOOL command, with TEMP modifier) to add a new Item on the TaskBar or to the Menus, or a better solution is to use the StateDisplay Tool from my homepage

I dl'ed statedisplay, but without an example i can't do much :( I know how to modify arexx scripts, not to write from scratch
Darius, if you are still in amistart development, can i make a suggestion?
Another tool/module that would keep track if some of predefined rexx ports are open. Like yam, ibrowse, dopus1, ami_port.... etc...
As soon as port is opened meaning that program has started, an image showing small ie amiamp would appear at right bottom part of amistart. Like winamp in winxp does.
LMB would send execute single arexx script (ie uniconify.rexx), RMB would open a selection of arexx scripts (pause, play, next, prev....)
What do you think? I have a pretty good idea how it should look like so the future developed s/w could easily be integrated into amistart in installing process (one more COPY command)...
And for the s/w now avaliable, i believe there are 3rd party developers whom would only need to make images for that rexx scripts, scripts for a lot of progs are already avaliable.

the StateDisplay is very easy to explain/use
assume you want to display states on the taskbar with different images for example one state for online one for offline and one for downloading
so you create 3 images (for example) named
"state" for the online state "state1" for the offline state and "state2" for the downloading state
the baseimege in this case is "state", all copied to the same drawer.
you have to select the base image in the StateDisplay tool, it must be plain -> no extension. the 2nd image must be named basename+"1", the 3rd basename+"3"
that meant if your first image is named "onlinestate" the 2nd must be named "onlinestate1"
now you must setup a PORTNAME to the tool for example "testport"
now you have a tool installed which recieves Commands from AREXX, so you now can use the imageN command to change the image
for exmple to show the 1st image send simply the command "image0" to the above named port. for the 2nd image "image1" and so on.
an example script which changes the image to the 2nd if the port is named "testport"
-- testscript.rexx ----------------- /* REXX script to add an Tool */
ADDRESS "testport"
image1
-------------------------------------------
NOTE: all image must have the same dimensions
the 2nd suggestion, i cannot track all apps to add an icon to the tray, AS has an AREXX-Port which can be used to show and hide tools, so you can add a Tool (the Statedisplay tool) and disable it, then if YAM is started YAm can call a initial AREXX script which sends the SHOWTOOL command to showup the StateDisplay tool.
I have not yet 100% tested all so if something went wrong feel free to conatct me again. |

I will give statedisplay.tool a try.
My other suggestion is a combination of statedisplay.tool and directory layer. 90% of work is already done. It is a tool that would be in idle state waiting for new rexx port to be opened (like IDCMP messages for windows). If it is one of enlisted, then it would show (so not all rexx ports, just the one enlisted, like ibrowse.rexx, yam.rexx, amp_port, dopus.... no need for virusz, executive, mcp and other)
I made a new directory for amiamp. It is colection of 4 rexx scripts; start, nex, prev, quit. Start.rexx script loads amiamp, or if it already loaded, uniconifies it (it is always iconified).
For the tool i would like to have, there should be slight changes; LMB on image would open show.rexx script (to popup to front or uniconify it) RMB would open a list with other rexx scripts, in this case prev.rexx, next.rexx and quit.rexx.
Or for YAM, LMB would open show.rexx, RMB would make a selection of getmail.rexx, send.rexx, quit.rexx, getinfo.rexx... etc....
If amp_port is closed, the icon would be removed from bottom right layer. Not too much to do. As i once was an asm coder (silencer if you remember), i can help you with ideas for easy configuration and make some pics. English is not my native, so a pic would show more than my mileage-long texts :)
At least think of it, and you might open a donation for amistart. Without AS , i wouldn't use my amikit package

Ok i put you on msn list. ADN is very quiet. Seems folk are tired writing on the maillist and probably tired of no news/hardware etc. Probably moved on to windows machines etc. I tried to write a couple of times but mosly no reply. No jokes etc like before. Dunno. People get other interests, move on etc.
It was fun when it was alive ;) Staces, jebiga ;)
