Links related to the Kent Event Center are consolidated here in post#1.

1st a note from Moxee's post about the media coverage (April, 18, 2007):
Quote:
The news was just announced on Seattle KOMO TV that Amiga bought the naming rights.

@Legion
I guess "Steve McEwan" was an (all too common *) note-taking mistake by a journalist.

Hmm. Looking at the size of this thread, and the other threads on the same topic, there seems to be a general lack of interest in just the facts.

Heh! Naw.
The point of my thread is simply to keep the links available in one easy to find location, since we have many people who don't have the time to search through all the other threads.

Thanks for the links, they were rather entertaining. Especially this one:

Quote:
The \"Amiga Center at Kent\" will bring tens of thousands of people to the city for events such as Amiga\'s international developer conferences and for Amiga\'s new product launches. This partnership will significantly raise the city\'s profile among a new, much larger, international audience.\"

cellphone-based orders of hot dogs?

What about cellphone-based orders of SAM license?

@Giovanni

I've seen this quote misinterpreted elsewhere.

"ten thousands" "such as" "Amiga conferences".....
means "ten thousands of people to ALL events at the event center".
that "includes whatever number of people the Amiga events might draw".

I'm not saying you read it this way, but I know of people who have read and commented on this as if the "ten thousands" ONLY aplied to "Amiga conferences".
That is not how it reads.

Man, if that were billed to your cellphone account, that could be a shocker if you sent a text to the wrong number and order a SAM accidentally.

Well, looking again at the quote
Quote:
The "Amiga Center at Kent" will bring tens of thousands of people to the city for events such as Amiga's international developer conferences and for Amiga's new product launches.

I get a strong impression that the writer believes Amiga's events are examples of the kind that will draw tens of thousands of people. Of course "such as" means other events will also be of that scale, but they will be along with Amiga's, not in place of or in contrast to Amiga's.

McEwen painted quite a fantastic picture of his company for the Kent people, who seem to have accepted it without further checking on Amiga, Inc.'s actual size and accomplishments and capabilties. I suppose "don't look a gift horse in the mouth" explains their behavior.

It is also possible that Amiga, Inc. will undergo a magnificent transformation and become what McEwen says it already is (just to cover all the bases here). In this case I and quite a few others will be eating crow, but for a good cause, I guess, especially if the old debts can be cleared as the company ascends to grandeur.

Oh, man . . . have these people been conned.

Some quotes or paraphrases quickly typed while listening to the mp3 and probably containing errors (don't attribute any of this to the Kent officials without verifying against the original):

For those that don't realize how long Amiga has been around . . the original letter [text on video] device that we used here in Kent was an Amiga brand, as it was basically throughout the nation....

Amiga has one section headquartered in India, others in various other sections of Asia...

Amiga is actually an international corporation in the sense that it has board members around the world.

Amiga, which is the world's premier provider of multi-media enabling technologies....

A delightful conversation....

They will be moving the headquarters to Kent, so it isn't just the naming rights, . . . but the company itself, and great opportunities lie ahead there....

Will work with the schools to make reallife digital education a part of the process.

Any number of video games among the software that they now currently develop....

The mayor refers to a team that worked on getting this contract, including attorneys. so I guess either Amiga's past actions and current status/capabilities were successfully concealed or explained away or else the attorneys and others are satisfied that the past shenanigans and discrepancies between description and reality are irrelevant to this deal.
