@Stephen_Robinson

Must have been some nasty bugs to warrant such a fast update.

Looking at the history changes, quite some nasty things they bugfixed.

But well, maybe it's good MOS exist. For the poor guys who don't have the hardware to run real AmigaOS.

@Moxee

Well, that's one way to look at it...

Just trying it now, seems like the old, only better...

Still crashed out on me when I was changing the wallpaper, so it's not perfect, but then I've had OS4 do daft things like that one before..

I'm still not sure if I like things like change wallpaper in Ambient Settings, and Screen blankers in System settings, and I'm still not a fan of that MaxOS X look in system settings, and having to press cancel to go back to the other options. But that's they way they've designed it, personal taste and all that...

Well, it was said at the time of 2.0 release, that there ARE known bugs, and missing stuff (like Efika audio), but they didn't want to hold back the release further, until these got fixed, so there will be an update in the near future. Now most of them got fixed, so the promised update is here.

@Stephen_Robinson

About some crash on changing wallpaper, that's really highly surprising. A log would be welcome there.

Just out of curiosity, what's wrong with the way of changing wallpapers in settings? How do you imagine it instead?

About system settings navigation, you can also switch to "list mode" from pulldown menu. It will then look like 1.4 navigation mode.

In the menu of the Preferences application, you can set back everything to the old "List" view, if you prefer that, like me... :)

This what soviet writes about MorphOS 2.0 on Amiga.org

http://www.amiga.org/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=46883&forum=4

Quote:

I have bought and efika, and installed morphos 2.0.
It's really unesatable have no sound, even moving windows around can get you a frezze, the worst is to register a unfinished, inestable and soundless os you have to pay 130 euros including.

The old amiga 4000 i use everyday is much stable than morphos even using os 3.9 i don't have a ppc.

They even refuse to discount the VAT in a export.
I'm don't plan to register until i have sound and don't get more random freezes

The MorphOS team put out product that was not finished, I have read many complaints like this one about MorphOS_2.0, the MorphOS_2.1 update was needed now lets hope it fixes what it says it does for the ones that where ticked in to buy some that was not finished.

The question wasn't targeted at me, but here is how I would see it...

There are different cases in which I'd like to change the wallpaper:

1. I'm browsing a website and.. "nice! I'd like to have this picture as wallpaper": right-click -> set as wallpaper
(I guess there's an ARexx function to allow changing the wallpaper, so this could already be done)

2. I'm browsing a local directory, and.. "nice! let's see how this would look like as a wallpaper": right-click on the file -> set as wallpaper

3. finally, right-click on the desktop -> 'change wallpaper' should bring the settings->wallpaper panel

@Fab

Computer froze, so I couldn't do anything.

Wonder how you get the automatically changing wallpaper thing to work, it's always greyed out, I'm sure it's obvious, but I can't ungrey it.

Personally I'd prefer the prefs back in the prefs folder, not a menu option, ie the correct Amiga way!!111! etc etc

AlsoI think having 3 (and a half) type of preference, Ambient, System and MUI, is a little bit scruffy myself.

But then you could say OS4 is just as bad, what with the workbench icon, and err.. apperance* setting in prefs.

*is it apperance? the one where you can change the apperance of the sliders etc.

Morphos 2.0 was perfectly fine OS, not the bug filled monster that some of you seem to suggest it was. at least on my Peg2, can't speak for the Efika though.

Of course it had it's err... qirks, but not much more than OS4, or 3.9 come to that, but what hasn't? other than MacOSX of course.

Yes it mostly about Efika and MOS2.0.

"AmigaOS4 pre developer release" was sold in the same way for AmigaOne-SE/XE.

What it does is generate lots of fuzze (bad press) in the forums, I wonder way MorphOS team did not wait until it was ready for Efika

AmigaOS4 update 4 / AmigaOS4 update final and update Jule update where where stable..
I also expect AmigaOS4.1 to be rock solid, at lest I have not see any major complaints yet.

"Wonder how you get the automatically changing wallpaper thing to work, it's always greyed out, I'm sure it's obvious, but I can't ungrey it.'

its simple, do not enter a filename, only a path of a directory with background pictures and there you go.

about prefs: i guess its better to have settings at a press of the rmb then open sys, then prefs drawer then browse through 35 different icons. os4 has 3 or 4 (or more?) different setting applications just for screens... and btw the "osx"-like settings of the prefs looks the same as you open the prefs drawer on amiga os.x - a window with plenty of prefs icons:)

ambient is the desktop, its a separate application (you can replace it) therefore it has its own prefs (like dopus5 or like workbench itself). mui always had separate prefs, and as you can set different settings for all mui apps its good as it is. personally i never lost in morphos prefs but i find them very intuitive and well designed.
