bah. syntax.
At least sundown had a sense of humor when he changed his thread title to "solved". [/me stares at sundown] I think we all need to post full text and/or pic of config, when we're sure it all works.

okay, here is the definitive version.
The above is a screen shot of my fully working Open Url OWB settings. Now upgraded to 3.15
Important notes:
1. There is no (documented) Arexx command for open in newwindow, therefore the above has that field left blank, and the config will only work if you disbable the "Open Url in new client window (or tab)" check mark in the misc options page in the url prefs gui.
2. There isno documented uniconify arexx command, therefore that field is left blank, OWB will not uniconify automatically, but will display the correct url once uniconfied manually if required.
3. The correct Openurl arexx command is OPENURL (as documented in the OWB readme ) not OPEN (that's AWeb syntax ;^))
errrm .... anything I've missed?
Oh yes, what MUI designer decided it would be cool to "ghost" inactive (yet not disabled)string gadgets and can I overrule it? (See grey text in above screen shots) It decidedly breaks the UI style guide IMSLDO (in my slightly drunken opinion)
[edit] spelling is hard enough when I'm sober let alone ... [/edit] Last edited by broadblues on 25-Jun-2009 at 11:57 PM.

Sorry for the lag in between posts, but I also had to install V3.15 in order to compare with you. And I'm on dialup...so it took a while. Heh.
What about the setting in tooltypes? I note a commented out reference to openurl. How is yours set atm?
Added: this bit (OPENURL=OpenURL %s)

| I seem to have taken the wrong screenshot!
I retested, and the correct value is OPENURL I'm about to update the screen shot....
You may need to flush your browswer cache...
Maybe it's cheating but one correct screenshot would seem better than two seperate ones.

Totally agree, since others might copy the original and not read a later update to the thread. Thanks for all the good work!

Only one more mystery to clear up, the OWB docs say to use port OWB.1. Not sure how important that is, just "OWB" seems to work fine. _________________ Hate tends to make you look stupid... |

| @broadblues Ah, got it working! OWB now opens the correct URL when it is already running. It was because I had "Open Url in new client window (or tab)" ticked under the Misc tab of Open URL prefs (now unticked).
It seems that OpenURL is NOT intelligent enough to realise that an empty "New window" ARexx command means it isn't supported & to try the normal Open URL command instead :-/ _________________ Author of the PortablE programming language. It is pitch black. You are likely to be eaten by a grue... |

I believe OpenUrl adds the '1' or which ever number is required itself. Which is why you omit it in the preference window_________________ BroadBlues On Blues BroadBlues On Amiga Walker Broad |

Exactly. If you select the port name while the browser is currently running OpenURL prefs will strip any trailing number._________________ Why stop it now, just when I am hating it?

Hi guys. Is there any set way to get this working? I set up OpenURL to just use OWB and it hardly works. Mostly from YAM.
If I am lucky I can double click ona URL in YAM and it will open up OWB and the URL. But, other times OWB will oen up and no open any URL! If it has opened up a URL, the next time I do it in YAM all it does it put OWB to the fornt and no new URL!
Is there a bug somewhere? Is OpenURL or OWB particular in how it works? Can this actually work?
I'd tried to follow the tips here but OWB just doesn't work properly with OpenURL. |

OpenURL seems to default to what ever browser is running, or if no browser is running, it'll start the browser that's first in the openURL list. Me & number6 spent a few hours trying to sort that one out.
In YAM/MIME: MIME=text/html extentions=html Description=anything you like Viewer=path/OWB/OWB %s
YAM/Scripts: No script is set
Thats my setup, seems to work on URLs I've tried, bugs are possible. _________________ Hate tends to make you look stupid... |

Thanls for the tip. So it looks like OpenURL can't be used then. What a waste! |

| @Hypex If OpenURL works sometimes with YAM, then OpenURL is probably configured wrongly. Certainly I have no problem using OWB with OpenURL. Here is a short guide I wrote for configuring OpenURL with OWB:
Here is a quick guide on how to configure OpenURL to use OWB:
1. Run "Sys:Prefs/Open URL".
2. On the Browsers tab, click on the Add button.
3. Here is what you should enter in each field: Name: OWB Path: YourPath/OWB "%u" ARexx port: OWB Show: To front: SCREENTOFRONT Open URL: OPENURL "%u" New window:
4. Note that the "Disable" button should NOT be depressed.
5. Now go to the Misc tab, and ensure that "Open URL in new client window" is NOT ticked.
6. You may change any other settings as you please. (I have the other three "Defaults" ticked.)
7. Now click Save. _________________ Author of the PortablE programming language. It is pitch black. You are likely to be eaten by a grue... |

I thought that also. I hate the way these things can be particular. Be good if each browser had it's own profile that OpenURL knew about and we simply clicked what browser we used instead of putting all these strings in.

Aha! Looks like that was it! Thanks Chris.
The only thing is that they now open in the current window. So I need a blank tab open before I do it or loose my page. |
