My essential programs for which there are no actual replacements that works the same way are probably the following: IBrowse AmigaAMP ToolsDaemon KingCON RC-FTPd and all my own 68k programs of course....

For musicians, what about "mod2sample"... I used to use it extensively when composing modules... I don't know if Os4.x trackers have this feature built in but I needed it to simulate more channels when composing on Paula.
I also enjoyed 3D visualisation, so Lightwave or Real3D would be worth a port to OS4.x; unless the OS attracts a host of Open Source productivity software alternatives to bolster its functionality... such as OpenOffice and the like.
From peoples lists though; no doubt there are valuable 68K packages worth porting.

I see, I have Milky Tracker for x86... just haven't composed anything on it yet. I want to try it on AROS too though :)

Vista Pro and OS4 Final...how to?
It can be done through the OS (screens), modepro, and newmode. I believe the thread covers all the methods. For me...Modepro always allowed the highest degree of control for getting troublesome 68k programs to run, simply because there are more options.
Please note that I can not attest to OS4.1, since my posts were made in regards to OS4/final.

I never knew this! Thanks for the tips. I only have VistaLite on my system but did test VistaPro and it just froze. Will test more though. It does make a sound I think as asked in the other thread as it does something to kill audio.device which freezes the system according to my debug buffer. |

ok. Let me update the methodology so you start rendering in ham-8 at 896x640. heh! I'll assume a working knowledge of ModePro, but feel free to ask questions. These instructions are for VistaPro V3.x, which is what I assume you are attempting to run. Two versions are included for VistaPro. We'll use the .881 version and absolutely NO need to disable JIT, despite older posts indicating that.
ModePro
(01)Install ModePro. Currently I have it in WBstartup, but you can put it somewhere else. In that case you have to start the program PRIOR to trying to run any program trying to make use of it. I strongly suggest just having it start in WBstartup, so you don't have to even think about it. I have not seen any file conflicts in the 4 years I've used it. (02)Toggle the upper left gadget to say "screenmodes". Make an entry in the dialog box at bottom for the screen name. "VistaPro 3.0" (Please note there is a space between the "o" and the "3". (03)Toggle the middle gadget of ModePro (promotion) to show "screenmode". (04)Use the selector to choose "P96-0:FAKENATIVE: 640 x 480. (05)Save your prefs
Prefs/GUI
(01)Go to "controls" and checkmark the box "Planar screens on RTG" (02)Save your prefs
Let me know if VistaPro3.x starts up and displays the familiar main screen properly at this point. If so, I'll give you the next set of settings for the target program itself.

How did you get VistaPro running on a OS4.x machine? No luck here (OS4.1/SAM). The machine freezes instantly after starting VistaPro - regardless the version (FPU/NOFPU, version 3.05).
What settings did you have in your compability prefs? Did you use a screen promotion utility? Which?
EDIT: Oh my god...sorry, I totally overread the post above with that nice long how-to-thread - forget my question, I'll try the tips from that thread...Last edited by cha05e90 on 27-Dec-2009 at 12:41 PM.

If I were you I'd stick with my summation in post #31 of this thread.
I included the link to the 3 methods of screen promotion more for historical purposes. That thread was more "real time" as I was getting VistaPro to run through each of those 3 methods. Post #31 in this thread, though, represents the best way.
While I have nothing against OS4 screen promotion or Newmode, I still found ModePro to be the solution for almost every problem, due to its vast array of options. Since I did not want to have more than one mode promoter on my system, I settled on ModePro since its success rate overall was higher than the others.

Thank you very much for your efforts and the excellent guide! Here I used the non-commodity only-Screens-Prefs version - and it works! I were so euphoric about the fact that VistaPro started and worked that i made some "mason-esque" 32bit icons for VistaPro and the corresponsing tools... _________________ X1000|II/G4|440ep|2000/060|2000/040|1000 |
