Problem is who'd be willing to create something like this without aiming to profit from it? I would, but I can't solder.

Whilw Amiga Classic compatibility is always welcomed,
what does fastest PPC or better CPU (x86?) means?

Is it x86 emulating Amiga Classic
or PPC compatibile OS 4.x system emulating Amiga Classic chipset?

@Ancalimon

Soldering is the least of your concerns. For something like the best PPC or better (x86?) stuff, you're not going to sit there sith a soldering pencil anyway. You NEED a professional assembly house to do all the SMT, BGA stuff. The larger problems you'll encounter are PCB design, signal integrity of same (latest PCI-Express, SATA, USB etc. are really freakin fast and this becomes very important), the expense of the CAD programs, prototypes, testing, debugging, etc. This will all be rather expensive, and absolutely cannot be done by even a good hobbyist with a soldering kit and multimeter. You need a pro engineer or a number of them. If they're willing to do free time for very low cost compared to their normal salary, great for your idea. I think this kind of thing is rather much for a bounty system with small numbers of people like Amiga users are today. But someone did make a much improved new A1000 motherboard, someone else is researching a similar kind of bounty for an 8610 motherboard, Natami, etc. Put some thought into this, but keep in mind how to deal with things if it doesn't work out and donators want refunds, just in case...

one improved Zorro3 slot for bacwards compatibility

Can someone explain to me what an "improved Zorro 3" slot would be, and why it would be needed? If you want to use old Zorro cards, there is certainly PCI/PCIe replacements these days that are better, and an "improved" Zorro 3 slot wouldn't be any faster because the plugin cards would not work with it.

I am sorry, but Zorro slots have gone into history and should be forgotten. Even PCI is outdated by today's standards.

It was just an idea. I'd rather use a cheap maudio firewire soundcard instead of a Zorro2 Delfina; with a program like Cubase (Orion maybe) that can emulate windows as a slave to be able to use all those x86 vst's But with AmigaOS as the master OS. This is just an idea as well.

Maybe an arrangement with a PC motherboard manufactorer, a PC mainboard + Amiga compatibility software+harware running AmigaOS4 x86 (Amithlon?)

To my ears a project like this sounds like the only remaining alternative for all of us to continue have fun with Amiga (hence the site name amigaworld.net) Soon all of us will be really old men (some already are )

More ideas coming soon.

Here you go

No Zorro slot, but as Rogue mentioned, not really useful at this point. Made sense perhaps back in the BoXeR days, but what do you have that isn't far better in PCI_Express or software only form today?

Though I do think that Zorro3 could be improved upon to some extent, it's asynchronous, not fixed to a clock. But how many Zorro3 cards can give much more than they already do on Super Buster 11? Could be a fun projecct for someone that just wants to do that and no other reason than that.

@Ancalimon

I already have an AmigaOne, right now you can buy Sam440ep or flex if you’re interested in AmigaOS, and system friendly applications.

If you’re more interested in Amiga Games, then NetAMI is only option really, unless you don’t mind running Amiga Games in an emulator.

Right now you can buy MiniMig but it’s just about as good as A600 whit a hard drive.

I think Elbox made some Zorro4 slots or something, any hardware supporting that standard?

From @Effy in 2005:

Quote:
A Zorro4 busboard (they don´t make them anymore at Elbox) gives you the option of two Zorro4 ports compared to the traditional Zorro2 busboard, but I only know of two cards that use that superfast Zorro4 port, the Zorro4 Powerflyer like ID4 has got one and the Mediator pci busboard specifly for the Zorro4 busboard

The "superfast Z4" is nothing more than an extension to the A1200 local expansion bus.

trying to add some pictures to explain "my version" of A4000T-NG / A5000T+

Base the system on passive board.
Perhaps on some existing board: http://www.chassis-plans.com/backplanes.html

And build the (high end) Amiga computer on it, card by card.

Doable, flexible, less risky(?), ... ?

I wonder what kind of money they would ask for a "Amiga" design...

http://single-board-computer.com/custom/custom-showcase.html

And powerPC stuff: http://www.google.fi/search?hl=fi&client=opera&rls=fi&hs=U3g&q=PICMG+processor+powerPC&btnG=Haku&meta=&aq=f&oq=

Very interesting PPC460 board (IMHO): http://www.smallformfactors.com/news/Industry+News/15666

If we wanted an AmigaOS 4.x X86, why use Amithlon which is a 68k emulator? I'm not trying to put it down here, mind you, I am just saying it doesn't make sense.

(Note: First time I post to aw.net using Timberwolf ;))

No, I am not interested. I would never spend such an amount (1000$ - 2000$). My A1200 and x86-PC satisfies all my "backwards compatibility needs" just fine.

What you suggest is neither fish nor fowl.

First congrats about Timberwolf! :) I hope it runs on my 604e233 with just 128mb ram.

I still don't understand why AmigaOS was ported to PPC. It's hard to replace broken units. x86 is cheaper (especially for us since we are a small community and can't afford to produce a million AmigaOnes with PPC's so economies of scale becomes viable)

Why not choose the cheaper and better alternative instead of the PPC?

Anyway. I'd like a proper Amiga in which I can use cheap, still produced and easy to find parts. (like ddr2 rams and pciexpress graphics cards) It even doesn't bother me at all if it uses an easy to find, fast and cheap powerpc cpu that can compete with a processor like core2duo or quad. I even don't care if it is classic Amiga compatible or not after all these years.

AFAIK, nope (AmigaOS4.1.x is required)

Then what makes it an Amiga then? Does it not matter what software it can run as log as AmigaOS runs on it? PPC was chosen because it was possible to build in 68k emulation which is harder to do on x86. Saying that UAE is a lot better on the PC (x86) so for A500 games a PC is actually better than the Sam!!! I'm guessing that 68k productivity software (with RTS support) works really well on PPC systems and would not do so on x86 PC's. New software is rare and incomplete so many people need to run 68k software to get by.

It requires 4.1; if we ever do a 4.1 classic release, it might work, but 128 MB is a bit on the lowish side.

Really, this has been discussed to death. If I had a cent for every time someone asked this quesiton, I wouldn't need to work anymore. The whole sorry PPC vs. x86 debate has been discussed to death, and I am not going into it again.
