Update 1: PNG datatype problem

I've noticed a problem with the PNG datatype under OS4.1 Update 1. Pictures loaded via the datatype (using MultiView, bitmap.image etc.) have artefacts in them. I get the artefacts in both 16bit and 32bit screens, with compositing on or off.

EDIT: This only seems to affect some PNG pictures. Those pictures were displayed fine by the previous version of the datatype.

@Trixie
I checked a selection of PNG pictures with Multiview, and they all looked fine. Unless you can provide a sample "bad" picture to try, I have to suggest that you have a bad 3rd-party datatype installed.

@ChrisH

No no, I use the standard OS4.1 update 1 png.datatype (version 53.4). When I replace it with the previous public one (version 52.3), the pictures are displayed fine.

I've already sent some sample pictures to Rigo; hope the dev team can work something out.

@Trixie

Hello, we have the same problem here. It seems to be a bug in the DataType. All "interlaced" PNG-Images have such artefacts (on the left side there is 1 column pixel failure). After saving the Images without interlace it works fine.

best regards,

imagodespira

@imagodespira

Thanks for reporting. I get exactly the same type of artefact - pixel garbage on the left of the image.

What do you mean by "interlaced" PNGs? Images with the transparent colour saved?

@Trixie

It has nothing to do with transparent images, same behavior is on images without transparent.

In my graphics programm (corel photopaint) i can chose a flag named "bild verflechten" (in german, sorry :) ), in XNVIEW i looked at the information of the standard os4 images (tittlebar of windows) and my images for my skin, and my images were declared as png interlaced image, the os4 images not.

interlaced images can be loaded in browsers in passes, while loading you see a image with low resolution, on second pass the image is full resolution ( i hope you understand my english :) ).

jpeg images can has also such flag

here is a testimage i found:
http://www.macwelt.de/kanal/389

on our website i use also png images as interlace, owb shows it correctly, but if i save one image multiview shows the artefacts.

http://amiboing.de/gameAwards.php?gameId=5

(it works in owb on os 4.1.1)

if you see it while loading, you understand what it is:) but in your image i think you dont need it.

@imagodespira

OK, thanks for the tip. As a workaround, I converted the images to non-interlaced PNG using XNView. Still, the datatype needs fixing, and I'm told the problem is already being looked into.
