@Vader

Fortunately this breach is not too serious, it's nothing that you could not work out for yourself given the publically available facts, the unfortunate thing is that this thread could have been mis-interpreted as "It's ready for the earlybirders" Personally I took the whole thread with a pinch of salt. There are only TWO things that I will take seriously as meaning it's done:

1. Hyperion make an official announcement, otherwise It's speculation

2. A package containing a circular silverish plastic object is found prodtruding though a rectangular hole in my front door

I would recommend that everyone else does the same, I did not mean to offend by my comments.

That little bird is sure to get a hit on the beak. Such information should normally not leave our beta list.

Ahem. Didn't realise this (and no, I'm no betatester myself).
No harm or trolling intended, I hope you know. But I don't
think anyone - really - confused this little tidbit with it
actually being released to the masses. We are just happy
for you (and with you, I bet) that it has come this far!
Keep it up!

No problem, and not really any harm done. I just want to avoid getting hopes too high. You see, some people already misinterpreted that and thought that the prerelease is out.

Er... That would be me, then. Sorry. I panicked.

Must've mis-interpreted the thread title. Again, sorry. I will now go back into "patietly waiting" mode

While we're here, this is as good a place as any.

I set up a little database thingy a while back to log software that works and software that doesn't work with OS4 on the AmigaOne (excluding, of course, software written for OS4), along with version numbers and comments on how to get software working, OS version (currently "4.0 pre-release" or "4.0 beta", where "4.0 beta" is any version that isn't the pre-release).

I want first-hand information, and accurate information. Once the pre-release is delivered I expect the amount of tested software to explode.

Any AmigaOne+OS4 beta-testers (and eventually pre-releasers), please feel free to add to it by clicking here.

Chris

You should publish this as a news item.

I will get my A1-XE G4 tomorrow

And then in a few days you will hear me cry out my frustration with Linux and longing for AmigaOS4

Seriously, I really hope it will be out soon, now that I choose to forget my principle about investing money in non-available products :)

But I know it will be here.......... When it's done.

Oh, yes, several seconds in fact. Assuming you're not torturing your
drive by submitting it to the totally unnecessary full format. Any
reasonably modern hard drive should only be quick formatted.

Personally, I'd never format all of 80 Gig in one go anyway.

Best regards,

Niels

I guess that after 10 months of waiting for the AOS4 (since I bought my A1), I can have patience to wait for a harddrive to do a full-format, even if it takes a day or two.

It's not Wired that would be interested anyway, but OSNews. Particularly as OS4.0 will still be lacking some features that are now considered basic for a system. Doesn't matter that it will be a far better system than, say Windows 3.1 or MacOS 5 - or even Linux from a couple of years ago. The entry qualifications for the OS mass market get higher all the time.
We've already been warned that 4.0 will be for the Amiga enthusiasts and the OS won't be ready to draw new blood into the fold until later versions.

True, AOS4 is a small step for the mankind, but a huge leap forward for the Amiga-enthusiast!
