Since no OS4 beta-testers have answered yes to my request, I have to assume that no OS4 beta-testers are willing to help in that regard. Therefore the original suggestion seems unworkable

You are mistaken in your assumption as you didn't ask a "Yes or No" question, you posted the following request:
Quote:
So this is a request for all OS4 beta testers, who are willing to help reproduce bugs found by others, to announce themselves. Hopefully we can get a good list together.

And in my reply my first sentence was "I'm an OS4 betatester" so I did announce myself...

Granted the response from other testers wasn't overwhelming but I maintain that it's enough to use the words "OS4" and "crash" in the topic to get the attention of testers

@ChrisH

I'm another active betatester... So you now have three betatesters and
one dev that have replied in the thread. Enough?

I can only reiterate what AlexC said: for you and all those that want to
report or discuss bugs, go to the forum on AMIGANS.NET and post
quality(*) reports!

The signal/noise ratio on this site is too low... too many trolls...
Posting here will just get lost... don't hold your breath.

And finally, please deal with reality... the vast majority of the effort
is volunteer and spare time, you're not going to get a "ticket #",
"issue tracking" and customer support from "Bob" in Bangalore.

Shouldn't an open, public web forum regularly used by betatesters and
developers be enough?

User bugs are regularly brought up by testers and addressed by devs.
I just don't know what testers can report back, without violating NDA,
etc.

PJS

(*) = Detailed steps to a reproducible bug. "It crashes sometimes",
"It crashes on Tuesday" and "I don't like the color of the button"
do not qualify.

I doubt there is ever enough . Also, I only noticed you & AlexC announce themselves on this thread, who is the third?

No such forum exists. At least, none that is OFFICIAL, and therefore none that most OS4 users/developers know about. (I certainly don't know which forum you are hinting at - if you meant "Amigans.net" as mentioned elsewhere in your post, that's a bit vague, since I guess I shouldn't post OS4 bugs in "Games/Amiga Classic"!).

Hmmm, how about "your problem is being looked at"...? Even better would be "your problem has been fixed", although that isn't absolutely necessary.

@ChrisH

Just have short questions:

Is SAM version of OS 4.x not being BETA anymore?

Its bad that there is no official way to report anything,
but it seems there is no way to ask Hyperion either

This is the mail system at host mail.hyperion-entertainment.biz.

I'm sorry to have to inform you that your message could not
be delivered to one or more recipients. It's attached below.

For further assistance, please send mail to postmaster.

If you do so, please include this problem report. You can
delete your own text from the attached returned message.

Correct! It has not been "beta" since Update 1 of OS4.1 .

Look back through the messages! It's your thread, you should at least read them!

No such forum exists. At least, none that is OFFICIAL, and therefore none that most

I wasn't "hinting" at anything... there wasn't anything "vague"... I was
very specific and AlexC pointed you to an exact location...

http://www.amigans.net/modules/newbb/viewforum.php?forum=22

"OFFICIAL"? pffft!

The devs are there... the testers there.... the trolls aren't... get over
the rest... get on with it...

Either you can get lost complaining about formalities and misinterpretations or just
use the venue (repeatedly) presented to you?

Yes, true, I agree. I know there will always be more that can be done... By testers
(myself), devs AND USERS.

Oh common, CrhisH is right (and Opi too). There is must be some official, and normal way to report the aos4 bugs like Bugzilla or anything else, or anything official, which will be putted on the main Hyperion page, and will be avail for every legal user.

Now, its all looks not professional in term of reporting bugs. And you can say everything about time, or problems , or kind, but please, we ask all for real things: just something official to report bugs _normally_ to hyperion. Not some kind of "please try to found somethere someone and by some luck maybe report him bug, maybe if that bug was not reported, maybe it will be fixed, and if you will found someone, please be sure that he is tester or devel or not tester or user, or blablablal".

If we pay for it, then any answers are not interesting for us. For us interesting - result and normal work with users. Not like you pay, and be happy. Spare time, or not spare time, but there must be (must be) official way to report the bugs, which will be on main hyperion page. That is not our problem to think about how and who will do that. Even i can help (for free) with it. But just hyperion show us that they not interesting in it.

Its all can be disscussed, can be found the "gold middle true" how impove all of this, who can or cant report the bugs, where will be hosted the base of bugs and so on. You know, not only beta-testers and os-developers can found bugs.

And why you say ""OFFICIAL"? pffft!" ? Os for money ? Then OFFICIAL is here. If it will be 100% for free, then of course no one can crying and ask for something, but when we pay 100 eur, then, its OFFICIAL, and that answers who are devs, and how they found the time in their lives - not our problems. Welcome to money-world :)

"Is SAM version of OS 4.x not being BETA anymore?"

The SAM version came out of beta with the release of Update 1.

This was in fact the first sentence of the press-release:

"Hyperion Entertainment CVBA announces the immediate availability for download of Update 1 of AmigaOS 4.1, the most substantial update to date, and bringing the Sam440 out of “beta”."

E-mailing Hyperion Entertainment at random e-mail addresses will help much.

@all: if you want to report bugreports on Update 1 of AmigaOS 4.1, please head over to the dedicated fora of www.amigans.net. I hope this is sufficiently official.

@all: final note. Hyperion's server (running Linux) will no longer be brought down by the distribution of updates. This issue has been dealt with.

How about a bug report area or link on Hperion's website for registered Amiga 4.x users in the future ?.

Of course I read them. I actually hurriedly re-read all of them before saying I could only see two.

I still await a useful answer to who the third one is (sometimes the obvious can be staring one in the face - or otherwise you may have a different interpretation of what I am asking for).

What's with the attitude? Someone scratched your car today?

Lots of OTHER people have complained about not knowing where to post OS4 bug reports. The obvious reason is that there is no official way, so no-one is sure how to do it. The WHOLE POINT about having a formal/official way to do something is that then everyone knows how to do it, there is no confusion or uncertainty, and we can get on with our lives without long stupid threads asking how we should do something (or just no bothering to do it in the first place - for which Hyperion looses out more than the person in question, since it means OS4 looks worse to everyone else).

Thanks, that clears-up a lot yes, but what about all the people who don't read this thread? What about putting some notice on Hyperion's home page, so there is never any question about how one should do it? (Ideally it would also be in OS4's documentation.)

Hello fairlanefastback !

I post you see it delete it. I think you right that Attack is the wrong word. Thank you fairlanefastback at least looking in it.

I have friend come sometimes better English than me helps me posting sometime to say what is meant saying.

He say response "Good Day!" is "insult". Not attack so much. He said it odd that a business would post that and it's a little confusing.

What you say, is posting "Good Day!" after my post I post that an insult? I like hear what you say Mr. fairlanefastback.
