It's ITEC and ProKom who filed the leins against Hyperion.

@ruben

The average buyer has no idea what an OS is. Neither do they understand CPUs.
Ask WolfToTheMoon.

You could install Linux on any CPU, tell them it's windows, and they would not know the
difference. Put a few stickers on the front, , , and they're happy.

It's not that they're stupid, or anything like that. They just don't know, and could
care less.

Flip the switch, and start asking for help. And that's their vehicle I'm talking about.

@ruben

The initial production run being 250 units makes sense. As far as I am aware, the 100 or so betatest boards are going to come out of this initial run too, so if the testing reveals something wrong with the initial run, its best if the number of units affected is as low as possible. I wouldn't worry about small numbers.

Sounds like a reasonable and honest business plan to me!

Yeah, I guess. I hope they sell out those at least.

I think they probably will. And as long as they sell everything they make with a sensible strategy for the future, A-Eon will do well. We simply have to trust that the X1000 has enough features to stand on its own next to a similarly branded PC. And on reflection, since it was only ever aimed at the enthusiast, I think it will.

Reflecting further, In a few years time and assuming both companies survive, we'll have two similarly branded but unrelated products. Who here confuses Hewlett-Packard with Packard-Bell, for example?

I'd go with that too, but Hyperion is not willing to go x86 and neither is the MorphOS team.

Wrong.

All they require is a compelling reason to do so.

Somebody 'planning' to put name stickers on plastic is not a compelling reason.

Everyone has a price ....

Don't like it, don't buy it... as simple as that.

AMEN brother.

No matter what, ppc or x86, its just not the same as the legacy stuff. That was another time...

And if commodore didnt go bankrupt, they'd probably be using x86 now anyway.

HyperionOS4/Ainc/A1/SAM etc...isnt a real amiga either. People go on and on about amiga essence/philosophy. Well I never thought it was commodore amiga's philosophy to sell ancient sllllooow crappy ass PPC boards with a vastly outdated OS at a massively high cost. Yet some people here think this is the case...You lot are so completely utterly wrong.

I hope they sell lots of pc's.
Then I hope they fund AROS development.
Then I hope it overtakes Amiga OS in specs
Then just maybe, we might have something to unite over...

But can you see them funding AROS development? Probably not...

This is bull. They would realize str8 away. no MS Office just for starters...(dont say open office, its rubbish)

Im assuming ITUNES isnt available on linux either...not to mention a massive range of other reasons...

I just can't see a great number of us moving to Haiku.

P.S. We would all appreciate if the anti-AROS sentiment were toned down.

Linux based netbooks was quickly surplused by Windows based netbooks.

In AMD vs Intel, most customers looks at "Intel Inside" stickers.

Maybe I'm missing something, but isn't "putting name stickers on plastic" pretty much what every OS4 compatible PPC hardware manufacturer has done thus far? A-EON's "planned" and yet to be released X1000 platform is the first to actually use some custom hardware that is not readily available off the shelf.

@all

This is getting interesting!

The Commodore said, have sued so far, and what they say now that have not been compromised:

Quote:

FYI we're going to do desktops and everything else eventually.

Man-oh-man. If you only knew the news I got today......
It's dancing bananas for me this weekend.

Lots of surprises in store. Things that will shock you.
And it is only the beginning.
Just remember **I** heard about it today...
You'll hear about it in another couple of weeks.
Sorry for the tease.....but for all the snide comments we get here....
there's a heap of positive things going on behind the scenes.

The article "Commodore U.S. appoints Korey Kay" mentioned Amiga Inc. as a party to the whole affair and in sammband with the said Bill McEwen:

Quote:

We at Amiga are pleased to once again be par t of the great plans and products at Commodore USA. This is just the beginning of something great.

When reading these statements you begin to see outlines around the "design".

Amiga Inc is more involved than we know and Commodore have been big news that will shock the Amiga Community.

Guess I'm totally game so I end up here:

Commodore Amiga Inc buys!

IF it happens it is not impossible that the Commodore after a few years, a "OS5".
Another interesting thing is when they become the owners of all names rights owned by Amiga Inc.

I do not think there will be no Amiga Arena .....
With this, I would say that now (if C = buy "!?") the group will get the muscles that we all yearn for a long time. As a bonus, one of America's leading advertising agencies in the Amiga scene.

I have started planning for my programming plans ......

That would be news to BigBentheAussie then.

He stated that the only connection between Amiga Inc. and what C=USA was doing was the C=USA use of the trademark "Amiga".

He also stated that C=USA only went to Amiga Inc. -after- failing to strike a deal with Hyperion.

No one in their right mind would devise a business plan giving more power ("more involved") to someone who has just been literally told..."your legal enemy was our first choice and we intend to limit involvement with you to the use of your trademark".(paraphrased for clarity)

If you prefer a direct quote:
Quote:
Licensing the Amiga trademark rights from Amiga Inc is the only way to obtain the "Amiga" name.
That's where their involvement ends.

I dont see AROS on x86 as destroying your ppc/OS4 combo - success or failure, how will it affect the 'tiny hobby market' of the very few die hard ppc/OS4 fans? Where do you pull this melodramatic spiritual ancestor stuff?

We want new customers - not just you lot.

The only way forward is x86 - whether people like it or not. I used to hate it, now Im at peace with it...

AROS isnt really good on its own...its got a long way to go.

On the assumption Commodore usa manage to sell plenty of pc's and want to develop it (I stated I think's it unlikely - but never say never) - There is the potential for it to overtake OS4 in users by a ####load.

Yes, I know all this!

But we also know that the road can be changed quickly.
The signal that caused me to speculate, Bill McEwen's statement when Commodore agreed with the marketing, the company.

I may be totally wrong!

The future (within a few weeks) comes after the fact!

I fully understand what you have to say and agree.
If anything in amigaland is a guarantee, it is that everything changes...sometimes daily.
I just wanted to repeat what was expressed as factual as of this date.

I undestood that your path of AROS succsess is started by Amiga OS failure and total bankrupcy. AROS was created as de facto Amiga OS copy for x86, thus I used term "spiritual ancestor" for Amiga OS. My English is rather weak - maybe misunderstanding on my side?

I fully agree.

AROS is good on its own as new OS. It is not really neccessary to push it instead of Amiga OS. Yes, AROS need much work to become useable - but you can say the same about most "alternative OSs".
