I don't see the problem here.

Noone is forceing anyone to pay anything.

It is true that AROS is far from free, looking at the bounty money collected through time. At least when a bounty is done, people that don't have money or whatever can also use it and people might look at the source code to learn from it or use it for other stuff.

Personaly I used a lot or money on AROS and bountys. I feel I done my part supporting AROS with money, even if I might donate something to a project in future.

There is good and bad things about open source code. I like the fact that there are some software for AROS that is not free and that there are comming some real nice software in the future like AMC and a audio riper from clusteruk.
I will for sure buy AMC and Stevens Audio riper.

@clebin: I have nothing against bounties for developing. But this isn't a bounty for releasing source code, not coding something. I just don't get why people here absolutely want to *make money* with whatever they do, seeing the very tiny community we have. It's clear developers can't live of Amiga/AROS developing, so why not just doing it for the fun ?

As for Haiku, you see bounties to develop and release stuff. But you don't see someone working on some closed source thing... And then saying "ok, I'm ready to release that if you give me some money".

Anyway there is no problem at all :) I'm just saying what I think. Most people doesn't seem to agree, that's fine :)

And why should they do that only for the fun? There's no reason why they should, as like as there are no reason why they shouldn't: people have the right to decide how to spend their free time, and if it worths some money.

Haiku has a different story. Haiku should be able to run older BeOS x86 applications (there were really nice ones) and nobody seems to need them opened. On the AROS side thing are different, because often programs were coded for AmigaOS on different architectures, and opening them means also porting them (like it happened with Poseidon) with great efforts. As for Davy, he's a professional coder and Steve Jones spent a lot to get his iMica systems fully supported by AROS: it would be a shame if Commodore USA or whoever else will take advantage of his efforts without contributing too.

And, well, Steve's pocket is not unlimited. He has a secret marvellous plan for AROS that really worths funding, so I decided to help him as I could.

Sorry, I missed this... Another thing to note about Haiku is that people's motives aren't questioned at every step. I know this is deeply ingrained, but we too often look a gift-horse in the mouth.

What an eloquent sales pitch to convince us to buy into AROS by the way.
Seems like a great way to entice a new vendor to invest in AROS development and spur its proliferation. The likes of Dell, Acer, HP and Lenovo are surely beating a path to AROS's door now.

You two businessmen clearly have the benefit of the AROS community in mind as you attempt to kidn....I mean...create larger IP problems and charge, for what has always been free. Maybe you can pull the wool over the AROS community's eyes....but not us. I guess you'll do subscriptions next.....gotta pay that tax.

Commodore USA and indeed any company will not be beholden to the whims of any other entity, especially ones as hostile as you both have been just because we don't jump when you say "pay us" when we haven't done squat with your tech.

After Barries little public tirade about Aros having no interest for you all and my offers to support you went nowhere. I believe that we will all do our own thing, you sell Amiga PC's running Windows and Pascal and I will try and bring Aros to the place we are aiming at.

I ask nothing from your company, only if you do use Aros in the future please acknowledge the work done by all those involved in the Aros project and maybe contribute a little along the way.

If you really must know Stephen the real reason you didn't get your ransom specifically to open the HDAudio driver for everyone, is because you doubled it out of nowhere. We just wont do deals with people that pull those sorts of "bait and switch" stunts.
It wasn't even a matter of money, it was a matter of principle.

You probably wouldn't even be open sourcing the driver in the first place if we hadn't approached you about it. And then you put the bounty at the first price you offered....well...having anything to do with this bounty just stings too much.

You only get once chance with Barry. And you blew it big time.
Hell, your iMICAs might have even become the next AMIGAs if you hadn't done that.

Wow, talk about change the facts.

The extra was because you needed changes for possibly two or three chipsets made and I had allowed £1000 for the driver to release it and pay for secret project and the rest to Davy to allow for plenty of time to do changes, Davy could confirm but I do not want to involve him in this. I would have got none of it, it was all to pay for my next project which as soon as I mentioned it you lost interest. I hope you will keep those details private and not spoil the surprise for April.

You spent a number of posts saying you were chasing me and I was just waiting for information before I could answer, i told you that but still you publically posted that I was delaying and I was doing things privately in emails with you.

People know what I have invested, which compared to well off Amiga investors like ben Hermans and Trevor etc. is small and you have money to use unlike me.

As for the comment about Barry giving only one chance, ok, so be it, seen nothing so far so no loss.
