I wish there was some way the Amiga Community could make a bounty to buy back DOpus Magellan2 from Guru Meditation and have it open sourced. Honestly, DOpus Magellan2 was one of my favorite (if not not my most favorite) thing about using an Amiga.

@mpiva

Literally 100% of the comments were similar to yours when the news was released. (I just reread the news thread on same topic).

Also, if it really was that clean it surely would have been a breeze porting it. Just add __USE_INLINE__ and fix the hooks and be done. But apparently not.

Recompiling old sources shouldnt take more than four weeks. One week for recompiling, three weeks for testing and polishing.

The 68k version doesn't run because it uses too many hacks and access the custom chips apparently.

DOpus5 listers used BCPL pointers and these won't work since Frieden's OS4 is not enough compatible with AmigaOS.

Here it was ... almost realised and then nothing almost 6 years after?

Was it ever on sale? Anybody has a beta version? Is Guru Meditation alive?

@all

We collect 2800$ now for dopus5 bounty, let's fill 200$ more, and we will try to contact with GPSoft in hope that they will open sources for 3000, and not for 5000 as expected.

Bounty here

@AmiKit

I think without fees. As bounty need 5600 (5200 for gpsoft + 400 for fees), i assume we need about 3250 to have real 3000. Anyway once we will have 3000 we already can contact with them and ask.

Question is: Will we get the last official 68k source, or will we get the work Guru Meditation did, which supposedly is quite a bit.

@AmigaPhil

Quite happy with Filer here, seems to do most things Opus Magellan did, well certainly all I used it for back in the OS3.9 old days

A very nice idea but isn't this cheating both the bounty system and GpSoft ?
you guys made a deal with GpSoft and you guys set up a bounty.

@Crumb

are you sure thats why?
If so, why does earlier dopus 5 versions work? (5.0,5.1 etc), to be perfectly clear Magellan 2 does not work here, maybe someone else got it to work but i sure didnt..

@Toaks

We got that you not in interest about any solutions which will bring us the source.

What kind of cheating you mean ? That bounty ask for 5000, and will will try to get it for 3000 ? I have i deal for you then. Send me 2000$ plz, so we will not cheat. Or you think we will collect other 2000 for yourself ?

Easy guys.

Contacting GuruMeditation is good idea. I am sure they worked on the sources for quite a long time. Once the sources are free, someone can continue in their work.
