Hi All,

I came across this forum post discussing dropbox for the amiga:

Port dropbox to Amiga OS 4

Let's show our support by logging in to the forum and post a comment. Dropbox is customer driven so let's show them there are Amiga customers out there that would like to have access to their service.

Cheers,
Bill 'tekmage" Borsari

I just had a look at that discussion, and I'm surprised that they're talking about lack of a "kernel notification subsystem". AmigaOS 4.x does have filesystem change notifications, otherwise my workbench windows wouldn't update whenever a file is added, removed or changed. Costel is very knowledgeable about the AmigaOS API though, so maybe it has some shortcomings that would get in the way.

OMG, dropbox support for AmigaOS would be the most useful Amiga app I've seen in the last 5 years, yes, yes and YES from me!

I don't think Workbench windows do auto-update though, you probably installed the patch from OS4Depot like most of us did? Autoupdate or something? I don't think it does by default though.

@danwood

No - since OS4.1 Update you don't need a patch, it's part of usual Workbench behaviour.

You may think about it as distributed folder. You get your folder, everything you put in there will be synced to servers. If you own more computers, it will be replicated to them. If you have friends with Dropbox, you can share folder (any number of folders, to be correct) to put your stuff in, we use it to work on documentation. Dropbox has special folder, Public, whatever you put in there can be share via URL, it's super useful if you want to share something really quickly.

As an added bounus you get files revision so if you have your image in Dropbox folder, you edit it, save and later come to conclusion that older version was better all you need is to ask Dropbox to restore older file.

This is one of the few new tools that made me more productive. I'd die without it. It runs on every device I own, on any OS I own.

I'd love to have DropBox for OS4.1 update 3 or OS4.2

I read what the website says about Dropbox. So it's a central place i.e. a place stored on someone else's server.
And they say it's secure? Well.
I'm pretty sure the company will be purchased by Google any time soon

Transfered via SSL, encrypted on storage. It is more secure than Joe Sixpack's pirated XP for sure.

So, no e-mails for you? Sad panda.

(Dropbox creates real folder on your disk, your files won't go anywyere if you're going to be offline/ if Dropbox's server farm burns/whatever)

yes this is true about email but I don't keep private business information on email but would do so with Dropbox...that being said at least it's encrypted

I use opera unite for things like that :)
Most useful browser on earth, opera that is
Unfortunately, this also does not work on AmigaOS4.

I completely agree. Dropbox is invaluable for my workflow. Simplicity is it's main strenght IMHO (just drag and drop a file inside dropbox folder and it will be synced with every device you have installed dropbox on).

I would pay a reasonable fee for an AmigaOS 4 client.
