yes..it's real. Disney approached us months ago about doing a "co branding", and we've been working on this project for quite a while. We're very proud to have been chosen by Disney, the world's largest media company, to participate in this huge TRON promotion. If anyone still thinks this is not for real, just look inside every TRON LEGACY dvd, and you will find the Commodore C64 promotional ad in the plastic case.
IN 1982, BOTH THE ORIGINAL COMMODORE "C64" & DISNEY'S BLOCKBUSTER "TRON" WERE RELEASED. ALMOST 30 YEARS LATER, THEY BOTH SIMULTANEOUSLY RE APPEAR ON APRIL 5, 2011.
COINCIDENCE? WE DON'T THINK SO!
Commodore USA, LLC & Disney are co:branding the simultaneous release of the all new C64 and the TRON Legacy DVD on April 5, 2011. Our revised and updated website will feature new products, along with the official opening of our webstore. www.commodoreusa.net www.disney.go.com/tron

glad to see it's finally happening. i remember us talking about it via email last year; it's a huge coup. this coupled with your retail strategy are going to shock people around here. they won't have seen so much presence for commodore since, well, the original.
congrats, again. i very much look forward to seeing the C64x in ths shops.

I highly doubt the "chosen by Disney" bit, I suspect you went after Disney, but still to actually get inside the world's number one marketing machine can only be in your favour.
It also puts you well in the lead of any other Commodore company that might arise. I have to say "well played sir." |

So Disney allowed you to buy an Ad included in the Tron DVD box? _________________ Sent from my Quantum Computer. |

| Wasn't it Disney that once made animation software for Amigas? I think I watched the episode of Computer chronicles on youtube on that. Also seen Will Wheaton's comment (of Star Trek TNG and The Big Bang theory lately) on youtube last night about Video Toaster 4000. Didn't knew he used to work for them for a year and half... He's also an Amiga fan
Anyway, again, great work on this cobranding deal.

Our question was not negative, we were just asking. Your comparison is apples vs oranges. recoding a 3D animation package for modern times that had not been touched in 10 years is very different than selling a retro PC with Linux. _________________ Sent from my Quantum Computer. |

Yes, that's the one, thanks #6
One wonders, if C=USA does start selling Video Toaster AMIGAs again maybe we'll see professional animation and editing software written for Amigas once more. _________________

You could always take a look at their partner list.

Yes, I know, that's why I mentioned Video Toaster. I know that it's Barry's intention to sell Video Toaster AMIGAs in the future. Since he once worked in that industry I'm sure he knows exactly how and what to market. Would be nice to see AMIGAs once more used as professional machines. I also suggested they take a look at scientific market since that's where Linux/UNIX dominates and it could be seen as advantageous for customers to buy machines with OS and customer support from the same company. I know they have plans for Tesla GPU workstations so it's a possibility. No need to attack Microsoft or Apple head on, there's plenty "niche" stuff to make business from and to make AMIGAs seen as a professional system again. I'm from Europe, US marketing babble usually just scares me. But this one has me puzzled:

What you are trying to say is "we bought advertising space", right? Honest question.

Can you even imagine how much it cost to do such a thing? Hell, the printing cost alone must be outrageous and Disney isn't exactly known for giving things away for free.
All I have to say is wow! What a brilliant strategy. You know how many retro computer geeks are going to buy that dvd and then have an orgasm when they find out they can buy a C64 thingy? It's F.ing genius. You have to admit, these Commodore guys are at least taking some risks. This isn't like building the X1000 risky but still, it's impressive. |

There was no need to find an elaborate deal or whatever for an Aprif fool, just mentionning C=USA was enough! _________________ Philippe 'Elwood' Ferrucci Sam460 1.10 Ghz AmigaOS 4 betatester Amiga Translator Organisation |
