AFAIK the source code that went to Phase5 is something that was leaked during the Commodore bankrupt.

That is news to me. I was had impression that Petro Tyschtschenko of Amiga Technologies sent source code to phase5. Phase5 was not only company getting free source code from Amiga Technologies.

if you take something out of the dustbin, would you call it stealing ?

I woudlnt if that dustbin was sent to me by Amiga CEO having a wish "do something with it".

And still it has nothing to do with MorphOS. It is just some grumpy PCB layout guy who designed some toy computers at Commodore.

I can only speak for myself. I have never seen trace of AmigaOS source code there or any evidence such thing existed there.

I do know that all references to Amiga were expelled from repository; Frank Wille's VBCC patch to includes was rejected because it used #pragma amiga-align.

Pretty pathetic. After all, you can't expect much from a guy with a Che avatar.

Risky name?

Other meaning of AEON from wiki are:-

The eternal world of ideas (Plato)

"Eternal life" comes from the word for life, zoe, and a form of aeon (Christianity)

The various emanations of God (Gnostic systems)

The beginning (Greek)

but ...................................................... perhaps it is just an anagram of A-One?

Damn right, this WHOLE situation is pretty pathetic.
Grumpy PCB layout guys who designed some toy computers at Commodore on one side vs. grumpy OS coders/fanbots/whatever who waste their lives with a toy OS on the other.

we went terribly OT, so it's time for me to go further:
i wish A-EON a good luck but i would say the name chosen for the board is a bit risky, cos it suggests a failure (Nemo = 'no-one', 'nobody'... Jules Verne's novels etc. etc.) on the other hand Natami rhymes with "Latami" in polish and "Latami" means 'years' as in "it took years (to be accomplished)" but also Natami rhymes with "Lata mi" = "i don't care" in polish slang = something not important , which has no value (e.g. as a productivity hardware)
and then: SAM means "alone" in polish... then we have a beautiful MorphOS drug connection (dreams, sleeping, morphine) with MAC platform. MAC phonetically means a "poppy" in polish and a few (PPC!) poppy species are used as a source of drugs (e.g. heroine ("synthesized from morphine[sic!]", a derivative of the opium poppy" - thx wikipedia, and of course: opium)
Then, to sum it up, we have a beautfiul AOS4-X1000-MorphOS connection (a quote from the wikipedia "Morpheus" article): 'Little Nemo[sic!] in Slumberland, a comic about a boy's surreal dreams, includes a supporting character named "King Morpheus"'.
My god - what a bundle of symbols! (and i didn't say a word about AROS!!!...)

EDIT: typos.

It was a in a code they wanted sell to Amiga Technologies, and Andy Finkel was send to Phase5 to do some code review.

woa! i didn't figure A-EON is an anagram ("poor little nimrod..." http://is.gd/QVYmRy
...but i was referring to NEMO motherboard (which, apart from its Latin meaning, can have its peak: http://is.gd/q3hxM2 ) anyway - let's stick with something eternal: "play it again, SAM": PIAS

Haynie did some things more.

I don't knwo if he did some work on the ECS to AGA enhancements but most of the Commodore CPU cards where made by him, the A2630 for example. I hope the A3640 design was not his product because the schematics is based on a design from Motorola, demonstrating how to get the 68040 working in a 68030 bus, Commodore copied it including the error from Motorola's design.

Haynie had something to do with the ZIII design, the Buster (including the errors) are his work. Well maybe we should not blame Dave for all the problems with the ZIII DMA, ZIII had a complex bus design, and he only had access to outdated technology. Most people don't know much about that problems, there where not more than 10 card doing ZIII DMA worldwide.

Dave did some cool developments for the Amiga (double CPU car, Soundcard, AAA) but the best ones never went into production.

1994 indeed was great year. I really appreciate that Haynie has kept interest on Amiga all these years and sometimes tells interesting stories from Commodore days. But I wouldnt mind if those old people tried to actually make some sense.

Linux is fine on bleeding edge hardware, provided you choose nVidia. Their drivers are never more than 10 revisions older than the windows ones and all their important stuff (3D, video acceleration and GPGPU) is provided.

Of course they don't have DX11, but let's face it, tessellation is the "big" feature for 3D there. nVidia (and presumably AMD too) make exactly the same hardware available to linux by implementing the necessary components of the OpenGL4 standard for those.

There's nothing actually stopping high end game development there aside from the commercial aspect. After all, the first demo to really show off DX11 features was the Unigine Heaven demo and that runs just as well on linux.

@Karlos
If you check my comments well i said Linux and macOS miss the software not infrastructures (which are still not on par with Windows, but alas).
I play Crysis 2 on Windows, Mac and Linux are left in the dust. I use composite with support for 2K real time movie effects thanks to AVX support (on sandy bridge) and direct PCE-E HD support thanks to Autodesk Composite (again Linux and Mac left in the dust).
It's not just about having some form of support, but having the ultra latest optimized version (for that support) to use on actual commercial software.
Windows is where you want to be for that, make no mistake about it.

@DAX

When wIndows can run GPGPU code half as efficiently as my linux install on exactly the same machine, I'll care about it. Until then, windows can keep it's place as "gaming os" since that's all it ever gets used for here.
