I'd like to say that I agree with you BUT there is one thing I like to add. If someone or several people complain a lot you developers might understand that it's kind of urgent to get it fixed, right? Because I agree on that the 3D drivers are horrible.
If people are just mellow and like, sure it's slow but I don't care you will not put that on you priority list either, right?
So I think that it's good in a way but I also think that enough is enough. But sometimes someone has to say something to wake you up it seems because issues that annoy the users can't stay there forever.
I'm not happy with the latest AOS 4.1 upd 2 I can tell you and have high hopes for update 3 and whatever will be released after that.
With AOS 4.0 update 4 the system became really stable and worked great! I loved my system, it was finally the NG Amiga that you would expect it to be. Fast, everything worked, I think that I even had the full 256MB VRAM.
With AOS 4.1 it was a step back because the features added wasn't bug-free. DDC didn't work, I suddenly got 100% CPU time when doing disk operations like deleting, copying, moving files etc.
With 4.0 I could play Heretic II again (love that game) but I was kind of supriced that the faster gfx-card and CPU (and RAM, busspeed) only allowed me to race the resolution one step, to 800x600 and it fealt about the same as on my a4k with a Voodoo 4 at 640x480. I thought that well, it will come later or, it's playable enough.
But really, users want the computer to work and to work really well! DDC doesn't work, well wait 3 years and it might work again.
Users complains for a reason, they love AOS and wants to be happy with it and when they are not they complain. I agree that some complain more than they should but still.
Ok, enough ranting from me. What I'd like say also is that I understand why it takes time but it can be frustrating, believe me. I wonder for how long you've been sitting there with fixes and a better version than me? Maybe a year, maybe more.
It is really frustrating when the computer gives you issues about things that should just work and the 3D drivers are one of them. I am SO happy that someone are finally working on it.
What it all comes down to I think is that the situation about the AOS itself and the hardware could be better.
The developers of AOS are doing an amazing lots of work. The question is, I think, if it's ok to release an OS, ask money for it and it got huge bugs that noone wants to be responsible for?
Now we finally got the forum and that is really, really good. But I've gone from turning my A1 on every day when 4.0 final was available to rarely turn it on to check software because I find things anoying.
3D drivers are just one thing.
Well that's it. I wonder how many enemies I made now? |

No, because it's already on the priority list, and no amount of complaining or mellowing is going to change that.
Personally, one of my goals is to bring GLSL to the platform, so I'd still be working on this even if people were getting over 100 fps in Q-II.

Weird. DDC has worked flawlessly for me since AmigaOS 4.1 was released.

Sure it's subjective, up to one point. Just read all the replies on the same question given over various time periods (from 2000-2009) of the first six results. It heavily depends on the Game type (RTS/TBS/FPS), Effects (AA/Blooming/FSAA), Resolution, SP/MP, even if the game is fast paced or not etc. Guess what, 90% of the users do not find normal, playing a game lower than 30 FPS. Yes, that is 30 for an FPS/SP Mode and that game hasn't have to be Crysis, but even more primitive like CS eleven years back. But in Amigaland, we have different standards to measure performance/playability I suppose. Personally, I would love to see today's reactions of outside users when sitting in front of an OS4.x compatible machine, let them know the hardware specs and afterwards let them play Q2. Also, anyone could start a thread on QuakeWorld saying "A G4 1Ghz, 1GB Ram, 9250 256Mb Ram AGP reaches in average 40FPS in Q2, with all details set to max at 800x600@32Bit: Would you say that the outcome is Good/Neutral/Bad?". | I am thinking of buying QuakeII for my X1000, so I searched for previous threads about it and found this one.
Not to beat a dead horse, but has anyone reported any performance results for this game while running it on an X1000?
What about on the SAM460ex?
Thanks in advance for any repiies.

Isn't the minimum of video ram required for doom3 64mb?. Did you used any patch?

It runs really fast on my SAM460 fitted with RadeonHD 4650 GFX card in software render mode so can't wait for 3D GFX support so I can run it in hardware render mode! Last edited by sicky on 10-Apr-2012 at 02:29 PM.

yes you can use expansion packs (if you use Hyperions version atleast). CD3 in the hyperion package is filled with Amiga friendly versions of the expansion packs.

I ment the PC mission expansion packs iv got most of them. I also got SIN mission Pack which this game to date has not been released on Amiga.
There also a FREESPACE mission pack which is awesome again as far as I know is also not supported on Amiga. Last edited by delshay on 14-Apr-2012 at 07:13 PM.
