Credit where credit is due, cool that it finally is shipping to "beta testers". I hope OS4 issues are worked out for the users.

@X1000_Booster

also look here:
http://www.natami.net/
and google for fpga arcade for which hardware there is an extensive expansion board with 060, lan and usb (?) under development.
both alternatives are not freely available yet.

@vox

well as you see if something gets actually done it doesnt deserve being trolled. the problem with x1k is not so much, _if_ it arrives by betatesters or not. lets lean back and see what comes out of that.

I guess if beta testing goes well (no major HW bugs found) then it will hit AmigaKit's store-front within the next month or two so they may still make 2011

NutsAboutAmiga mentioned most of this already, except that Amiga OS3.1 was ported to the PowerPC CPU by Hyperion Entertainment and named Amiga OS4.

Even though the Operating System is built from the same code, software applications written for OS3.x require the old 68k CPU. There is 68k emulation (Petunia) in AmigaOS4, so some applications will work. However, many applications rely on the old graphics chips, and will not run unless you use one of the UAE emulators.

Better news though, is that more PPC software is becoming available with time.

@wawa

I'm complementing the X1000 team on their choice of the case design. I think it looks modern and sleek. I'd like to see the white one. White with red leds would be cool.
I just wish that these NG boards were smaller formfactor. ATX cases are too damn big!
But i guess for the flagship model lots of expansion is needed. I was worried when we saw that pic of the Xs on the protos, but Amigakit sad it wasnt as bad as it looked and they were right! Looks awesome. Hopefully someone with the matching Amiga one kybrd and mouse can do a nice shot with the X1000 .. Hello Amigakit!

Hopefully, I think its critical that the whole project launches for public sale by Christmas.

once again, the case on photos here is not the same than the propotype on pictures from amigakit. therefore even if it has no "xs" it is not very reliable as reference what concerns the "final look".

you seem a little difficult to reach, i must admit.

OS3.1 has already been ported to this machine. It got a version bump at the same time. It is now called OS4.x where the latest version is OS4.1.3

The X1000 will be shipped with OS4.2.

OS4.x is a direct successor of OS3.1 with A LOT of enhancements in the later versions.

Wasn't the cases of the x1000 with the boingball engraved?. The boingball in this case is totally flat. By the way, nice case and computer, wish i have the money.

Hi, I'm very excited about this new Amiga! The first since the 1990s.
It most certainly isn't. There were a number of PPC machines in the last 7 (?) years: The AmigaOne (SE, XE/G3 and XE/G4), MicroAmigaOne in several variations, then Sam440ep and Sam 460ex. And if you are listing new machines capable of running the official AmigaOS (4.x), also the Pegasos 2. (Did I get them all?).

Best regards,

Niels

@Deniil715 & others,
Thank you for the info. I got nothing against OS4.x though, but I don't think it is the actual AmigaOS. The reason why...I have read it is based on a third party kernel called ExecSG. Who knows what that is but it's probably Linux with an Amiga API wrapper. Code riding on top may appear to be AmigaOS but I want the real deal! Its cool though if you like it, this is a hobby and everybody should enjoy it however makes them happy!

About UAE, no I don't think so! lol Here is my idea as crazy as it seems. X1000 comes with the Xena coprocessor. This Xena can be extended by adding more nodes using the Xorro bus? So here is my idea. Use Xena as a 680x0 emulator and add as many additional nodes as needed to emulate things like Agnus and Denise. Then run applications primarily on Xena and use the PA6T as a super-coprocessor! That way a software emulator like UAE is not needed. And 500mhz is very fast for an Amiga!

About other PPC systems like other AmigaOnes and SAM. Once again if they are your cup of tea then that's great but I don't think they are an Amiga. The X1000 is. The reason is I believe the X1000 can run Amiga programs natively as I described above. The other PPC systems can't, and that's all there is to it for me!

Where did you find out about ExecSG? I'd like to read about it too.

Well I'm afraid it is.

?

OS 4.1 is based on the original Amiga OS. It is most certainly not Linux. You have no idea how hard I had to try not to put that in caps.

Read this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AmigaOS_4

All of the other PPC systems run old software excatly like the X1000 will - through UAE unless it is OS compliant - then 68k code runs though Pertunia - a real time 68k conversion system. This is the same on all the Amiga PPC systems running OS4.

ExecSG is the name of the kernel in OS4.

Mr. Solie will be able to enlighten you as to the detail I am sure.

There are little bits about it in the Wiki article here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AmigaOS_4

It was mentioned quite a lot when 4 development started.
