@Zylesea

Looked like a bad news - turned out to be a good one, MOS 3 is closer then we think

Any ideas when "AmigaOne X500" (SAM460) or SAM 440 will be supported?

@Zylesea

Yay!

And how about some:

for good measure. A bit gaudy for my tastes, but I felt they were lacking from the thread so far

What would be the point? PowerBooks are cheaper, faster and portable.

@jacadcaps

Its good MOS uses all PPC Macs avail, especialy laptop, being ahead in Amiga laptop experience

Point of having MOS for SAM is:

a) Securing that there is MOS for some new hardware too ...
b) Offering chance to SAM users to try MOS, same as it was with OS4 with Pegs II

Also that G5 should be supported by MOS 3.x too to have the high end Mac comparable to X1000 (or the "MOS monster"

Well its good supported list expands, thumbs up for MOS team!

I think the MorphOS team actually knows about G5 and other options. It's just a matter of effort vs. benefit. In an ideal world MorphOS (as OS4) would run on everything plus a cow, but unfortutunately (well, not that unfortunate actually) this is not an ideal world, but rather a world of compromises.
The now officially confirmed Powerbook support is a pretty big step forward. 1.67Ghz is enough for convenient broswing, hd video (at least 720p) and a little gaming. Of course even more computing power is always welcome. One step after another - let them finalize the Powerbook support first and then look what's feasible next.

The interesting question is what such a Mac would end-up costing, given shop overheads (advertising/etc), the time spent on refurb, the hidden cost of a warrenty (as they would have to account for refurbed Macs which unexpectedly went wrong due to age & prior use), not to mention a profit margin.

Any Amiga reseller must deal with those costs anyway (except refurbishing).

Can you buy SAM boards w/o OS4 then? Supporting competition? No thanks.

Actually Acube are (were?) very open to MorphOS. Bundles w/o OS4 may be possible. Question still remains whether the effort is worth the benefit. Some ppl seem to be very sceptical about used hardware though.

These are not the really big thing in PowerBook support, all of these features are available right now, with accelerated PowerMacs and high-end minis. The big thing in PowerBook support that all these features of MorphOS with all its features will be availabe on something which is not a big box on your desk with a cable-spaghetti, but an elegant, silent, mobile device.

That's (being mobile!) exactly what I meant. But the Powerbooks also happen to be the fastest *out of the box* computers so far supported.

Well... Not exactly. According to these benchmarks Mac Mini G4 1.5 GHz is actually faster than 1.67 GHz PowerBook G4.

@billt

because ibooks use ADB for pad and/or keyboard and nobody has time to implement this protocol (it's the same thing as with powerbook g4 rev A, B, C)

@eliyahu

You can? Where? I dont think they would allow it because it would ruin Hyperion's business (what ever there is left....)

But anyway bad availability (not many dealers selling SAMs) and high price versus relatively low specs coupled with desktop casing just makes it bad choice of hardware for MorphOS. If not counting AmigaOne family 90% of all machines I saw in Amiganoid 2011 were laptops, small laptops or some Mac mini size. Personally I have nothing against new hw from Acube (although their overclocked SAM440 800MHz line appears to be unstable) but those machines represented as AmigaOne 500 or AmigaOne X1000 are dinosaurs in our time.

It is not worth supporting this ecosystem. I know you would want MorphOS supporting ACubes sales but it is not going to happen.
