No problem, as its not a NetSurf problem, I see this on the other browsers as well. All ideas are welcome. I do like a bigger font on my 23" monitor.

Well, it is a NetSurf problem, clearly Just because other browsers have the same bug doesn't excuse it.
I tried those sizes here and get the same chopping off issue as you. The default size (which is the one I'd recommend increasing usually) isn't increasing the size of the text, which means it is down to the layouting not working quite correctly when the minimum text size is coming into effect.
I've just checked on the gtk version and it is the same there (except more extreme with the sizes you are using).
Please can you raise a bug report at http://www.netsurf-browser.org/contact/ "submit bug report"
Thanks

Then I guess you got the same resolution as me which would be 1920x1080 and the way to calculate the DPI setting according to Chris is to use for example the Shell command "eval" or the calculator and type 1920/23 and then you get the DPI setting which for me is 83 and probably for you too. So begin with that and then adjust your font settings to your liking. I hope that this helps. |

I had to change the DPI all the way down to 60, reduce the font size to fix the problem. I also noticed that reducing the font size in TimberWolf came close to fixing it, Text is to small for me afterwards. Think OWB has the DPI setting in the datatypes, play with that tomorrow & see what happens. Thanks for the tip. _________________ X1000! Party on Pure Gold Hate tends to make you look stupid... |

That calculation will always be 83 but it is wrong.
You need to divide the vertical resolution by the height of the display area. A 23" monitor will have a height of around, erm...
tan θ = 1080 / 1920 (I'm assuming square pixels)
That gives 29.36 degrees for the diagonal, which we know the length of. So then we can do sin 29.36 = h / 23 h = 23 sin 29.36 h = 11.27 inches
Divide the vertical resolution by the height: 1080/11.27, and we get a DPI of 96.
It's quite nice to do some maths occasionally, although easier to get a ruler out.

Just unpacked and installed Netsurf on my X1000, so I thought I would test it.
First impression is good. It seems to render the AW.net page nicely and it seems to be quick. The fonts are not as pretty as they appear on other OS4.x browsers, but they are legible and clear. I have not used it long enough to give a complete review of it, but I will definitely try it more to test it's capabilities with downloading and rendering other websites.
I just wanted to give you some feedback on my first impression.
I hope that you will continue work on it, as it appears to be a good browser and competition between developers is always a good thing, as they push each other to provide better software with each revision.
I just checked and it appears that I am using version 2.9 from February of 2012, so I will now look to see if any newer versions have been released.
Again, thanks for your work and I hope that you will continue to improve this excellent software project. _________________ What are you doing to make the Amiga community a better place? |
