There's an update regarding Timberwolf AmigaBounty.net:

Quote:

Title: Getting closer
Text: As you can see in the new screenshot, we are getting closer to having a usable Timberwolf 4. Even though it currently is only using pure software rendering (for drawing and composition), it's become usable, and already better than the original alpha version of 3.5 that we released previously.

Stability is OK, although not great yet (sadly, the browser was just crashed when I made the screenshot of the WebM video). Speed is still an issue, although a recent non-debug build is actually usable, even for script and graphics heavy websites.

So in essence, we're close to releasing a new test version. I don't want to give a date, though, since the speed at which I progress depends on too many factors.

Stay tuned for more updates.

Also there's a new screenshot: link

On what all hardware does that statement apply? All non-classics, including classics, or only the X1000? :p

Nice. My birthday in less than a month from now, would make a great bday present if we see a new release in time.

Also great to see TW seemingly with some integrated video playback.

probably all systems relative to performance of already existing (modern) browsers.

@1Mouse

:( Well happy bday for tomorrow, I hope you get something equally has good.

@billt

If you have an NG Amiga you shouldn't be concerned with speed in an Alpha/Beta release, once hardware rendering is added this thing will fly. As for Classic Users... I can't imagine TW will be that fast even when fully optimised, but I guess Classic owners don't own an Amiga to surf the modern internet.

I'm really just hoping that my XE is up to snuff, as i'm not sure about buying an X1000. I want one, sure, but considering I never get to use my desktops these days due to lack of time to make a place to put them, I really need a laptop to do any Amiga stuff. I'm not sure an X1000 would get used, thus have to be concerned about the price, and my XE is the best I'll have for a while.

My wife is telling me if I want the X1000 the XE has to go.
I was hoping somehow to use the XE as a AMI/x telnet system LOL
OH Well but the X1000 is real pricey and hard to justify.
Still undecided.
But TW sure will be welcome software.

I saw the snapshot, but that does not mean it plays. It may be simply a still image?
