Congratulations - a great leap forward for AmigaOS 4.x.
I'm rather surprised by the timing of the announcement though, since I'd expect this will make some people think again about buying an X1000.
I'm curious - who will the be on the 'hardware manufacturer' label - A-Eon? A-Cube? A-nother? ;o)
I look forward to reading some in-depth hardware details. Will be a great positive development for AmigaOS to develop netbook supporting software infrastructure (power management, wireless networking, trackpad support, etc) . _________________ Hull Chimney Services

I think it will be based on 400 MHz 5121e (so no 600 MHz or Radeon HD). I can´t imagine how they could maintain 300-500 USD price range with faster CPU and decent GFX.
However, I will buy it for sure! |

Now it's been announced, let's get the details: When, what and where to preorder?

If it's just an adaptation of a mass-produced design, then the manufacturer would have many of the advantages the advantages of economy of scale (eg purchasing quantities, return on design/debug work already made). This opens the cpu possibilities somewhat compared to a small design/production run from A-Eon/A-Cube, so I wouldn't see the MPC5121e as the only option. I would expect a SoC based system though... _________________ Hull Chimney Services

Well, 400 mhz are not fast of course, and without radeonhd there will not any kind of 3d , so not only games, but some programms will not works as well..
But you are right. 300$ netbook even with 400mhz, and some ####i gfx chip already fine enough :)Last edited by kas1e on 23-Oct-2011 at 10:17 AM.

| Is something based around a i.MX515 Cortex A8 based SoC a possibility?

No, it is an ARM chip and so OS4 would not support it. |

According to Amigans.net, Rogue has a prototype of the machine. PPC based!

Of course PPC based, if not, then for what need AOS4 without software ? Even those 3000 files on os4depot are some kind of "must-have-base" already. _________________ aos4/aros/mos projects & articles
