@all

2012 Event UK. Penciled in relevant to this thread. That is all I am going to say on this subject.

Fiction indeed.

I don't think I am releasing any big secret when I type this (because I was not the only person Steve Solie was talking to at the AmiWest Show when he said it), but Steve did say that this Netbook already exists and that OS4 already boots on it, but the drivers for the touchpad were not completed yet, so the developers could not do anything from OS4 on the Netbook yet using the GUI interface. He did not say and I did not ask about using an USB mouse. I am also sure that there are more drivers than just the touchpad that need completing and that the lack of completed drivers for many components on the Netbook is the reason for Hyperion not wanting to show it running OS4 yet, but they may also have other reasons.

I have no doubt that this Netbook does exist and what Steve said about it is true. As for the reasons Hyperion has chosen not to reveal what this Netbook is and who makes it, that will be revealed in time most likely, and nothing discussed here is going to change when that information will come out.

Since there is not much sense of letting this thread continue, other than more hostile messages aimed at the OP, I suggest that this thread be locked. There is nothing interesting or valuable to the community or this forum site to be gained by keeping this thread alive any longer.

In the interest of not further fanning the flames, please lock this thread.

I do not understand the problem. Lets imagine it is a lie (or at least not the whole truth). I do not think that people will not buy a Powerbook (MorphOS) because of that announcement. And the real fans of AmigaOS would never buy MorphOS regardless what is announced or available. So I do not think it really hurts the sales of MorphOS.

There is no netbook running OS4, no A1X1000, no SAMs, no OS4, it's all an illusion.

@TheDaddy

Does OS4 exist at all? Perhaps it is just a dream? (or nightmare what you prefer)

The OS4 is being developed mainly because Morphos team is developing MorphOS, it's just a pure malice the same is true with the netbook

@xeron

Well, it exist I've not doubt about this. What I've doubts about is the announcement at Amiwest. To me they just (pre)announced it to send a message to Amigans, stuff like (after simple decoding) :
"If you can just afford one laptop, buy ours"
It's just business practices, they should just be honest about it.

Stop lying to ourselves.
Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have an OS4 computer but I can't afford it.
For 150€ I bought myself a Powerbook to try Morphos. We'll see what come out of this but I made my choice. (If you see a picture of me you'll see that I'm not a Smurf)

@kamelit0

To be serious for most "Classic" and Aros fans the announcement is not relevant. I personal will look at it but I do not think it is really interesting for the majority. And most MorphOS users will not buy it and drop their support for MorphOS. The same will be with AmigaOS users. The majority is strongly sticking to their choice, so I do not think that such tactical games would have much impact on sales. Or do you think a lot of AmigaOS users would have bought a Powerbook with MorphOS without that announcement?

If you look at the histrionics of both teams they tend to do this yes. Nobody has still given me any kind of reasonable response to WHY WOULDNT THEY SHOW IT IF ITS RUNNING? makes no sense not to.

Because its just booting. Similar situation was with early X1000 videos, as soon as they pop up, people would start complaining that it`s not that fast, not what they expected etc. Such nice videos of X1000 booting OS 4.1u2 at that time were removed because of such "taste". Since its probably unstable and not all apps working - being developed and announced for more then 6 months to release date - that would be imbaressment.

Similar situation is with MOS 3.x: we know its around the corner, we have seen sneak peaks of PowerMac and G5 on the You Tube but not full release. Now, we know both teams enough to trust the announcement. It takes time to finalize it, but it`s being worked on. At the present state of affairs, Hyperion has imperative to make full support of X1000 first and hope by that summer day we will have OS 4.2 on that nettop with some new features, like some kind of 3D for PowerVR.

Yes, its very dreamy, all that speculations what to do with the net top that isn`t done yet, but for people that can`t afford X1000 it seems to be a relief factor: finally, there will be some cheap (and portable) OS4 hardware!

X1000 is at least as big news, if not bigger, since its fully developed system from zero, but its price is kill factor.

@xeron

Well as you stated it's a Hyperion decision. I suppose that you're not in their head, you just trust what they said to you I suppose...Marketing (good or bad) is not conspiracy is it?

@OlafS25 "Or do you think a lot of AmigaOS users would have bought a Powerbook with MorphOS without that announcement?"

I don't know, some probably, people that are not decided yet will now wait and see. I just can speak for myself.
