@TheKorn

Blender requires miniGL support to run, unfortunately the Radeon 4650 card supplied with the system does not support miniGL, but my 9250 runs it. A cheap 128MB slow PCI card, I was not impressed with the benchmark time with that card & I won't post it. That test would only be valid with aq fast PCIe gfx card anyway, we wait for driver support.

So do we have any information about when the next batch of X1000 will come out for sale?

I mailed Trevor and asked him:
"I looked in AmiKit's web shop every week, but was not able to find the ordering page for the "first contact" version up to now - and now they're sold out.
...
Do you already have information, WHEN it will be possible to order one of the "normal contact" version?"
That's what he replied:

Do not despair, we are now working on the next phase and will release more information when it is available.

Finally explains why some applications are slow on X1000.

That's right - perhaps along with the MIPS rating which some have questioned as being unusually low as well.

You are right about real use speed as opposed to benchmarks though.

That's right. I'm not that bothered about benchmarks myself - it is the real world use that interests me the most. In use it feels smooth and snappy. Everything seems quick and as a first product you should be very pleased that it is as polished as this.

Thank you for giving me a computer I actually want to use again!

You'll get a higher GfxBench2D score if you run the test at 1920x1080

Yes - I did look for that but the reason I am in 1440x900 is that is the highest res mode available to me - how do I get 1920x1080?

I feel like a noob again!

I might be asking the obvious here - but what resolution can your monitor display? If your monitor can't display 1920x1080, Screenmode prefs won't let you select it.

If this is CPU access (no DMA) I think it's normal. PCIE doesn't seem to be very fast for CPU transfers. Maybe there's some tricks to speed it up but you probably can't get anywhere near PCIE bandwidth with CPU.

Here on a x86 with Intel Core 2 Q6600 Quad Core 2.4 Ghz and Nvidia 9800 GT gfx card under Linux "x11perf -shmput500" gives 2400 MB/s transferrate with NVIDIA gfx driver (which will use DMA), but with VESA gfx driver (which will use CPU) (and Option "ShadowFB" "0" iin xorg.conf!) only 270 MB/s. With AROS I think I once also just saw some 160 or so MB/s, it might depend on some memory/MTRR/whatever configuration or 32/64 bit transfers or whatever.

"x11perf -getimage500" (there's some overhead here because it doesn't use shared memory between app and X server) only gives around 500 MB/s (NVIDIA) or a terrible 6 MB/s (VESA).

I'm jealous. I haven't even got my final email yet. Even then, I'm expecting it to take nearly forever to shipo from Great Britain to Australia.

"enabling me to use my Amiga for work "'
I envy you!

MIPS speed: initially ok! (PA6T has longer pipeline than G4)
L1: yummy!
L2: yummy!

RAM: it seems you get 50% of the bandwidth of a single RAM bus of PA6T.
I would expect up to 200...400% increase when drivers are maxed out.
(still... your system looks almost like gigabytes of cache RAM is in use, when one compares to previous Amigas)

Seems silly how much RAW power PA6T delivers for AOS use!!!

It certainly is not tied to X1000 hardware because reportedly performance on SAM is similar when using those gfx cards.

This of course is leading to conclusion that Amiga gfx subsystems could be improved.

The mips result from RageMem is wrong
Have a look here
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Instructions_per_second
The CPU have 8800MIPS at 2GHZ

The 8800 value is for both cores, hence with AOS and 1.8 GHz 3960 MIPS would be the expected value. Anyway - MIPS are not too interesting. Real world measures are: How is video playback? Does it do full hd playback? What about some Blender tests? Browser scores?

I'm getting seriously jealous! Still haven't heard squat from AmigaKit

I just can't believe it if I actually managed to missed the train! I did get a response as if I was in, but I guess I wasn't among the first... Maybe I need to give then a week or two to get my dual-boot system ready as I ordered it.
