| Unfortunately the MorphOS developers have refused to port MorphOS, even though Trevor has offered an olive branch. I hope that will change...it would be great to see MorphOS on the X1000, too. |
Read all X1000 related articles on MorphZone. Seems X1000 generated a lot of interest of MOS users, buth MOS dev team is strong in stance that:
a) Kind of A-EON should pay for the port (this was not done for OS4 either) some 10k euros or so. Only Genesi funded their port I believe. Kind of expectation based on Trevor is way too rich ... kind of spoiled argument even some users argument that support of SAMs and X1000 could make OS4 users transit to MOS as faster and more developed = best possibility in "competition".
b) Saying that MOS team is too busy with supporting PPC Macs and support for each board takes year or two of their work. Note that G5 is neither likely to happen.
c) Idea that both Acube and A-EON might disappear in year or two, even they have been around for a while. This argument is mainly used to suppress argument that PPC Macs are already fragile, unsupported and with only eBay availability.
So, expect MOS 3 for PPC Macs with new improved functionality, but that will not improve much current MOS situation, just add laptop models.
Seems after that they plan ARM or x86 transition, good luck with that, but that seems like way more demanding then X1000 or SAM port. Good like with that ambitious plan, but seems that MOS and OS4 will not crossover again after PPC Classics and Pegasos II.
Good luck and best wishes to MOS team, will buy x86 or ARM licence when done.
Now, since that story is out of possible, lets go back to the REVIEWS of X1000 FIRST CONTACT PLEASE. Videos, pictures too ...Last edited by vox on 05-Feb-2012 at 04:57 PM.

I m happy Hyperion didnt choose to port OS4 to apple-hardware. I mean it was meant for apples operatingsystem not amiga. If mos users like to use their amigasystem on a mac-mini with an apple logo on it then its okay for me but i dont want it on os4. Maybe i m oldfashioned but i want my operatingsystem OS4 on a SAM(old amiga ppl) or X1000(Trevor amiga). Those ppl have a past with amiga.
I also like the way they bundle the software with their computers like AmigaOne 500 or Relec "The Red One". If they release OS4 on a latop branded HP or Sony i will not buy it. Anyway, the future looks bright!! Last edited by joeled on 05-Feb-2012 at 05:30 PM. Last edited by joeled on 05-Feb-2012 at 05:30 PM.

| Still very little word from people using X1000s.
I don't come here as often as I did in the past, but posts mentioning the X1000 are few and far between.
Is everyone keeping the experience to themselves or... |

That is what I fear and what people will be led to believe, I'm sure.
In previous ocasions, when someone bought a new Amiga, there were multiple reports. Even if the experience was not perfect. There was enthusiasm, sharing of ideas, etc. I know the community was bigger back then, but even so, it's weird.
Ever since the X1000 came out, what we get is mostly...silence.

i couldnt agree more but the thing is that the x1k crowd is not the same as the guys who talked about the a1's etc at launch/os4.0 etc. There will be more soon, when the second run is done._________________ Brand new website... www.amigaguru.com |

Most of the X1000 discussion is going on over at the Hyperion Support forums, so that is part of the reason that more reviews are not seen here for the X1000.
I have not been able to use my X1000 nearly as much as I would like to, due to health reasons which limit my time using it to drastically less than what I would like.
I hate using excuses, so I will try to create some screen grabs for a YouTube video, or just some still pictures soon.
As I have stated before in other threads, my X1000 is very responsive and as my first experience with any OS4.x compatible computer, I am very happy with my purchase and the overall experience of using the X1000. I look at it as still a beta release, until all of the drivers are finished for it and until the video driver for it is upgraded to support 3D. Before then, I think that reviews are a bit unfair, if the reviewer is comparing the X1000's OS4.x experience against other systems that have drivers for all of their hardware components and already have 3D drivers for their video cards.
I am very satisfied with the speed that OWB runs on my X1000. I usually use the MUI version of OWB, but I have also tried the Timberwolf beta, the non-MUI version of OWB, recently installed and have run NetSurf, but have not tried all of it's features yet.
As I am just now learning OS4.x, I still have tons to learn about how it works and the tips and tricks on how to set it up to get the best experience from it. This will take me some time, given my limited time to use my X1000 at the moment.
Hopefully more X1000 users will join the discussion on this thread to give you some more satisfying answers. I believe anyone can read the Hyperion Support forums, but only owners of Hyperion products can post messages there, which keeps down the noise to signal ratio. If you want more info, I suggest that you check out those forum threads as well as this thread for more info in the future.
Compared to my other MorphOS compatible computers, which provide a fast user experience, my X1000 has provided me with a user experience that seems to be just as fast and enjoyable. _________________ What are you doing to make the Amiga community a better place? |

some reasons, why it is quiet around X1000:
- X1000 is not the first HW after years without HW, remember when first SAM came out ? It was able to run Linux and people waited for ages to get AMIGA OS running on it. I think this caused a very high exitment and everybody wanted to show of his HW... - X1000 is for real, and we saw OS4.x running on it since ages, so having a X1000 is not that much of "hot News" - most of the current software runs very smooth and fast on SAM440 already, it has all been discussed... X1000 runs it as well you cannot be faster as fast. - Besides speedup for a very few applications, there is nothing "groundbreaking" yet (softwarewise) - delivery seems to be very slow, as it seems Amigakit gets about 2 assembled a day (this implies one person working/testing on it - on OS4welt.de we did a bit of "calculating" on how many FirstContact Systems will be delivered. - Approx. every third user comes up with images/videos/threads either here or on other AmigaOS related sites (most of them can be found on Hyperion Forum)
However, here some personal points why am not telling much about my X1000: - Currently not much time to install stuff + had to reinstall once as my Linux install killed OS4 (my fault) - Up to yesterday I had OS4 up and running plus configured bits and pieces like "push for dock" - FinalWriter - adapted screenmodes -adapted prefs from my old SAM etc.. - The Software I installed where not really challenging for X1000 (FryingPan, FinalWriter, TurboCalc) - I posted some shots right away on OS4welt.de, guess people donnot bother to do the same here and on other forums as well.
Today I installed AmiCygnix... and wow ! it is just flying ! - startup of AmiCygnix is much faster here compared to SAM440 (I used to say AmiCygnix is useless, as booting into Linux is not much slower...) - startup takes less than OWB MUI - you can actually work with Gnumeric ! I am doing a lot of customerdata processing with Excel and I need a fast workflow (snappy menus, good scrolling, fast searching...), now you can ! I'd say it is nearly as fast as Excel 2003 on my i5. I tested with Excelsheets about 1500 lines + 35 columns. Menus and Window resizing is really snappy (much better than my Debian KDE or GNOME on SAM440). Only downside is moving windows, that's quiet slow. Using another (not so good looking ) window manager makes this experience much better. Next up will be some comparisions with my SAM440 using my everydaysoftware iBatch, LoView, PicShow...

| Well, in the short time have owned it I have posted several videos from un-boxing to first boot to using it.
I use the system almost daily but do skip days when I am too busy to tinker.
I am enjoying just exploring Amiga OS and getting to know it better, asking questions, installing apps, etc...
Last video I posted on May 18 showing me using VNC on my X1000 to remote access my Mac Mini.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lh1OjQE7KfA
Anyway, I enjoy it, use it, what more can I say.
I would though like to see others like Amiga Dave or any X1000 post more vids. I have done a few and enjoyed making them. Just quick iPhone vids and not the greatest quality but express my fun well enough using the X1000.

I understand that X1000 discussion is ocurring on Hyperion Support forums, but if it's only happening there, the rest of the world (potential future users!) are left in the dark. Last edited by BrandonLee on 06-Jun-2012 at 11:22 PM.

| When the next batch starts going out and I get mine, I promise... I won't shut up about what I'm up to with my X1000.
I got a new monitor (24-inch Samsung @1920x1200) for my future X1000, an extra SATA hard drive and a couple of IDE/PATA hard drives. Even got a new floppy cable for the day when a legacy PCI slot will become freed up for my CatWeasel. Sigh. Just need the machine. Must be patient.... must be patient....

| @wawa I haven't got time to do extensive testing/benchmarking (at the moment), however if you need info, which can be optained reasonable quick, just let me know, I'll try to give the infos you need. I also planned to
1) make a video SAM vs X1000 running certain apps simultanously... 2) make a bbq party here in germany and invite some amigans to check out the machine
However currently I am not having much time and I guess this will last another 2 months or so...
