Back in 2010 there was some emails between C=USA and Ben which failed to go anywhere.

It became just the engraved case, and surely you can put SAM in it, its "just" $350 for case and blueray read drive.

Some here are talking about cases from Cusa as if there will be only the few that exist now. We will see much more of Cusa in the future and not just new Case.

I agree with AmigaBlitter that their case is nice to use for several of the different hardware that can run different (Amiga) os. It is definitely worth $ 200-350 to get such a case.

There is just one C64x new case, Amiga Mini one is avail for ~$80. Add up to $100 for blue ray reader, and usually you get twice ripped, as with C=USA.

Off course it is currently only legal way to get case with Amiga and/or Commodore logos.

Always interested to hear what C=USA wanted to do together with Hyperion and why it has failed

I guess, for good reason, that Hyperion does not want to develop an AmigaOS for the x86. I think they want but can not afford right now. Could also be that they have already begun on an x86 version.
I do not think the negotiations between Cusa and Hyperion definitely failed, they may have stalled. It's easy to resume the negotiations again if there is any cause.

Ben sounded quite adamant that PPC was the right choice OS4 when he was at Amiwest in 2010.

I don't think there were any negotions. From what I understood CUSA contacted Hyperion and they simply didn't respond. Some of the answers in Barry's recent Q&A suggests that he's not interested working with any of the NG platforms.

Besides Barry's lack of enthusiasm for the Amiga NG platforms, recent claims from Leo suggest that CUSA don't have the kind of funding to boost OS4 development anyway.

If Hyperion did have an x86 version they already have the Amiga OS and AmigaONE brands so why would they need CUSA taking a cut of the proceeds. I don't think that the Commodore name would add much value to their already strong "Amiga" branding.

Personally I don't see why Barry bothered licensing the Amiga name in addition to Commodore. CUSA are little more than a small time system builder and their main novelty is an old and still well recognised brand name. Both the Amiga and Commodore names are capable of getting main stream techie sites to take notice of your products, but I don't think that the two together equals much more attention. Reality is that they're just paying Amiga INC a fee for Amiga INC to tag along in whatever success they might achieve.

From the interview:

Question:
Quote:
What happened during the discussions I would assume you had
with Ben Hermans and maybe Trevor about the attempt to
license the AmigaOS for your Licensed Amiga hardware that
you could build based on perhaps a Sam or X1000 motherboard
in an official Amiga case.

Barry's response:
Quote:
Dont ever assume anything. (Im sure youre all familiar with a very
popular adage). I have never had any conversation with either of
them,

From the interview:
Question:
Quote:
Do you pay Amiga Inc. a licensing fee for each machine sold, or
was it a single lump sum payment, or a combination of both?

Barry's response:
Quote:
I will this one time indulge you and say, both.

It is true that Barry had not spoken with Hyperion. It was someone else who did it for Cusa. If he got an answer or do not know just Cusa and Hyperion.

We get a little OT in this thread now?

"Commodore Amiga concept design"

Maybe I will purchase a case of Cusa as they come AIO Amiga. Starting to get a little tired of all the cables under the table. I will not buy a complete computer from them, have no money for it.
