| AMD Fusion to power PS4
Too bad the PowerPC Cell didn't work out in the world dominating plans of Sony. I'd like to see what an Amiga OS might make out of the chip. |

Well, Sony is a bit unique in that they haven't bothered staying within the previous CPU family the last two times, so them shifting again should not come as a surprise to anyone.
If AMD can come up with a solution of an efficient main CPU to replace the PPU and a good GPU with GPGPU replacing the SPEs, then I don't see any downside. How they will handle the backwards compatibility is a good question, though. Maybe they won't?
The way I see it, Cell was a side step on the road towards GPGPU. _________________ Idea for "cheap" card using P2040/41 running multiple OSes and/or SMP OSes.
Anyone interested? |

| hmm... a few days ago I read that it will have 3Ghz ARM A15 with 8 cores...
Fusion sounds more reasonable. _________________ - KimmoK // For freedom, for honor, for AMIGA // "priest" is just the RED goaul in me // The multicolor AmigaFUTURE IS NOW !! |
