| I cannot get RDesktop to work. I have some RDP connections I use frequently on the PC but if I try to run RDesktop to connect I just get 'broken pipe' errors. What do I need to do to fix this? _________________ Sam |

Is Hyperion doing Windows support now?
Broken pipe errors with RDP is not anything OS4-specific.

So is this a behavior of the RDesktop program that needs fixing, and has nothing to do with anything in OS4.x, or OS4.1.5 on the X1000 specifically?
RDesktop is one of the programs I was hoping to use a lot on my X1000 in the near future. I hope the developer of it is still maintaining and improving the OS4.x port of it?
I have not been able to use my X1000 for the last few days, which is very frustrating, but maybe this week will be better than last week as far as my back pain goes. _________________ What are you doing to make the Amiga community a better place? |

RDesktop works fine on the AmigaONE X1000. I'm using it at the moment to access my Vista PC through my A1-X1000.
As suggested by Tony, best to ask your question on the X1000 forum where active beta testers and developers will be able to help you.
One trick I learned early on (when using RDesktop a few years ago) was that you need to press after entering details for each item in the general setup section.
computer (the ip address of your windows PC) user name (login name you use for your windows PC) password (login password for your Windows PC)
Trevor

Yes - I noticed that weird UI issue as well. Unless you press enter it looses everything. Unfortunately it still doesn't work. I am trying to connect to a 2008R2 server - perhaps the server is just too new for RDesktop.
The only reason I didn't ask at the Hyperion forum was because I didn't think the issue was the X1000 also this is a bigger audience for generic questions.Last edited by -Sam- on 12-Mar-2012 at 06:26 PM.

2008R2 is Win7 level. 2008 is Vista. 2003 is XP. Got a 2008R2 (typing from it atm), no problems with the Linux version of RDesktop when I connect to it.
Take a look at the settings in the "Remote Desktop Session Host Configuration", and check the security settings there, (RDP-Tcp Properties) just to see that those match RDesktop.
Are you connecting via netbios (= pc name) or IP ? If Netbios, try IP.

That's it. You can't connect to a 2008R2 (at least I didn't succeed). You can connect up to a Win2003 (I didn't tested a Win2008).
Note that it's the same with old thin clients. Security has increased in 2008R2. It doesn't accept connections from non-secure clients._________________ Philippe 'Elwood' Ferrucci Sam460 1.15 Ghz AmigaOS 4 betatester Amiga Translator Organisation |

Not by default no, and that is how it is designed to do. You can lower the security manually though. Last edited by tomazkid on 12-Mar-2012 at 09:37 PM.

I was experiencing this problem as well and I found that the version of RDesktop on OS4Depot causes the broken pipe errors you mentioned. I am not sure if you are using this version or not.
In any case, I found a solution to the problem which I have detailed in my blog one click away right here!
Now I can connect to Windows 7 and Windows 2008R2 64bit hosts from the X1000!
I hope it helps with your problem too!

Now I can connect to Windows 7 and Windows 2008R2 64bit hosts from the X1000! | Nice walkthrough! Will come in handy as reference once I get around to upgrading my wife's Windows 7 Home Premium to a Pro or Ultimate version.
Because on Home Premium, it is not possible to connect with RDesktop. The part of the properties with the checkboxes for allowing various types of RDesktop connections is simply not there (along with other security management stuff).
Best regards,
Niels
