| Hi! I would like to use some drawing program (apart from unix gimp). Is there something i can use on my sam440 and os4.1? I tried lodepaint from os4depot but it doesn't start (it dirts all the screen). Thank you! Last edited by rebraist on 02-Apr-2012 at 10:28 PM.

Head over OS4Depot and have a look at SketchBlock.
Maybe that's what you're after.

lodeapint use opengl (so, because of our current implementation of opengl, its a bit slow in reactions). It also can works over wazp3d , but even slower.
The best choice its SketchBlock. Its not fully ready to use pain programm yet, but you already can draw, import any gfx formats (automatically via datatypes), and save them as you wish (but there you need to make self-menu, and use converters). I currently have my 3 own menus for it : save as jpg, save as png and save as native icon. To add that its very fast, have layers, logical and easy to use. _________________ aos4/aros/mos projects & articles

If you're after a painting program you may find delight with TVPaint, a very nice 24-bit program. The last Amiga version is available as a free download and works perfectly on a Sam440.
Free download of Amiga TVPaint
There's also Personal Paint, which can be found on Aminet. It's a 256 color program that'll remind you of Deluxe Paint, complete with animation capability. I seem to recall fussing around a bit with screen modes to get this working on my Sam440, but it works well after the fussing.

Andy Broad (broadblues) is a very talented programmer who is working fast and furious on the aforementioned SketchBlock. It's still early in the development, but SketchBlock is sure to shape up into a very capable and native piece of software for AOS4. It's quite fun now, in fact.

Hmm - drawing or painting? In regards of a *drawing* program (read: structured vector drawing) you might play with the sometimes not perfectly stable DrawStudio, AmiFIG or MindSpace. Further there's Sodipodi which works nicely in the AmiCygnix environment. _________________ X1000|II/G4|440ep|2000/060|2000/040|1000 |

| I recently did some drawing with AmiFig. It's becoming usable for vector GFX, but for vector GFX some older 68k app might be better still at this point. And there most likely is something for AmiCygnix for vector gfx.
I also tried bitplane drawing apps. Grafx2 seems targeted to (too) small/tiny bipmap pictures. LodePaint performed poorly on my SAM (low speed and weird gfx/GUI). Tried sketchblog but it was not suitable for my needs now (wanted to draw in higher precision). Not tried TV paint yet, it might be ok/good. Most likely, some 68k bitmap painting tool still is very good to use, if one manages to set it up on NG.
So far, for needs where I need to produce GFX (and deliver results) I have been forced to use linux for now (my 68k setup is not in use currently, AOS4 is not set up to perform well enough, etc...)
hmmm.... Easypaint??? Last edited by KimmoK on 03-Apr-2012 at 08:36 AM.

Its QT based -> in current QT form slow like hell, unusable and have glitches. I will try to rebuild it with next QT release, should be faster (as alfkil did a lot of changes lately in QT)

| I'll add a vote for TV Paint. It's quite old at this stage, but always worked perfectly on my A1, and the features it has work great. It served me well for doing web graphics for many years!
Sketchblock is looking very promising too! _________________ http://www.robthenerd.com |

Don't forget to try ImageFX. It is the most feature rich gfx app. on Amiga. There is a free lite version on os4depot.
Don't know what does the "light" means, but probably missing effects, special modules.
Don't underestimate it by the first look, it surely is a powerful application. |

Well I would recomend my own SketchBlock if your needs are painting rather structured drawing.
It's still a WIP but quite usable now.

Assuming you mean SketchBlock what do you mean by higher precision? Higher resolution? SketchBlock support unlimited project / layersize (subject to memory ofcourse). Finer brushs? Brushes can be scaled down to 1 pixel.
Or somthing else? In which case let me know so I can add it if suitable._________________ BroadBlues On Blues BroadBlues On Amiga Walker Broad |

I wanted to draw block diagrams. It did not have line & ellipse etc. tools, or does it?
If I need to do case mockups etc. freehand stuff, it should be good, and once I plug in my RS232 vacom tablet, it should be perfect for that, I think?
Long time ago I used DPaint also for technical block diagrams etc... but perhaps it's too 80's way of doing things nowdays.... (another funny way is to draw on paper and "digitize" with cellphone camera ... it gives truly personal touch on things... )
@Lazi
ImageFX needs some setting before it runs. After 15minutes I managed to get it to run but so far it hides toolbar etc. weird stuff... (is there a tutorial to make it perfect?) Last edited by KimmoK on 03-Apr-2012 at 12:16 PM. Last edited by KimmoK on 03-Apr-2012 at 12:15 PM.

Not at the moment no, although you can write scripts to do it if you want.

Next version will have so colour to alpha tools that will make that approach more usable.

Thank you!! I used your sketchbox with my wacom bamboo tablet and it works very well! Really a good piece of sware! The only thing i miss is some "blending" (or melting i don't know what is the correct word) when drawing with various kind of pencils. |

Glad you like it.
What do you mean by blending? SketchBlock supports alpha blending of layers allready so perhaps you mean a smudge / smooth tool? In which case yes I miss that too! I think will have be my next plugin.
