Wow, didn't think it was still being developed.
What would be the chances of running MorphOS on it now? |

Does that mean an new PC can emulate an X1000 now? |

Very interesting, I wonder if we should port to Aros _________________ Amiga 1000, 3000D, Aros Nvidia PC, and an Aros powered Rasberry Pi owner and user. http://www.imica.net |

| @Seiya Interesting! Still i7 2600 based computers costs a third of an X1000
Makes you think if it couldn't have been more viable to change CPU architecture somehow using PearPC for a start. _________________

How does it actually perform compared to a 2GHz G4 though? It can't be actually a 2GHz speed because that'd require your x86 to be emulating on average 1 G4 instruction in 1.5 x86 instructions, which is simply not possible. Even if you have multiple cores running, you'll not get that kind of parallelisation. The fact that OS X thinks it's a 2GHz machine means nothing at all.
Can you show us a video of it running GIMP or something? |

"CPU JITC-X86: Sort of G4, including altivec. A very fast CPU for x86 systems that translates PowerPC instructions into x86 instructions on-demand. By caching these translations, a lot of speed is gained. Using this CPU, the client will run about 15 times slower than the host. Only works on x86 hosts."
Obviously we all have 30GHz x86 systems by now, therefore emulating 2GHz G4's isn't going to be very hard. _________________ Idea for "cheap" card using P2040/41 running multiple OSes and/or SMP OSes.
Anyone interested? |

What a waste, using that hardware to run Windows 7 64-bit. My Windows 7 64 bit still pauses and heaves on a quad-core CPU. It would be terribly annoying waiting for Windows to give some time back to the emulator while multi-tasking. Oh well, no matter how fast your computer its, Microsoft will be sure to slow it down.

It's very simple.
It actually not perform as 2GHz G4.
"About this mac" on Mac OS X emulated on PearPC presents CPU frequency taken from the firmware.
Therefore, there is exactly 2Ghz and not, for example, 1.95 GHz.
I suggest to wait.
Just a bit of work with the pearpc sources and the AROS followers will show us G4 emulated with a frequency of 100 GHz.

| Sure, Ghz showed could not be real. it's fast operating system, but the programs could be very slow. however in the old pearpc 0.1.2 jit x86 it's very slow
i wanted to find a linux ppc to test hardinfo.. PearPC is very difficult or impossibile to use internet and i don't know if recognize a cdrom to run some apps. However the more important thing is PowerPC emulation. Today with x86 cpu maybe we cannot run OSX at decent speed, but we have enough power to run OS4 or MOS via PearPC instead.

if someone want to buy and use OS4 on netbook, i think it could be run better on PearPC
however i have made 2nd test with a dual core E8500. PearPC run at the same speed so maybe on i7 is really a waste of time :)

He know it runs at the same speed, since in both cases pearpc firmware returns the same frequency to OS X.

*) 'Old' is a relative expression. In computerland in general it is about 5 - 8 years, whereas in Windowsland it has shrunk to just a couple of years, if even so many. _________________ As long as I don't express my age in terms of 'years' and my wealth not in terms of 'money', I can still pass for rich young man... |

| An actual x86 has plenty of power to run fast an os4 emulated via pearpc, or a mos system. The reason it isn't possible is because it's a viable path, and in amiga is better to approach difficult ones(i.e expensive and difficult to obtain hardware vs commodity hardware, etc...).

| PearPC doesnt support open firmware so starting a MorphOS boot image isnt possible since it. only executes ELF-files like yaboot etc. Best option would be QEMU running OF or OpenBios I think.
