I think absolutly the same. Again "announcement" (what mean 50/50 will it ever done or not), and yes, again and again dreampipe smokers will have something to wait for.
Now, we just need to wait before someone will start a threads with "ideas" about how good will be if Hyperion will support that amazing PPC board and how perfect os will works on it

Nice specs.
Considering that a basic 2nd hand 68040 or 68060 card for the A3000/4000 will set you back several hundred dollars, I can see a definate market for this. It won't put me off getting the X1000, but it will certainly make a nice add-on for my towered A4000, especially if it supports the Mediator board. _________________ A4000(T), A3000, A2000, A1200(T), A1200, CD32, Minimig+ARM, FPGA Arcade, Chameleon64, C-One, C128, C128D, C64C, C64, VIC-20, CBM 8032, Efika. |

Most of my miggies have 060 so a 040 would be a downgrade unless they add a JIT to the PPC part. _________________ The only spanish amiga news web page/club: CUAZ |

Indeed I agree. I think even the effort put in these projects is very worthy for the community. If you actually one buys it or not or has to wait some time to be able to purchase one is purely subjective.
For me this is the first piece of A4000 hardware that I see is worth to invest since I fully upgraded my A4000 in 1995. I'm looking forward to see it done and support it.
It's better to have something, and more choice in new hardware in my opinion, than nothing. _________________ Total sum of Amigas: 7532 |

Good point. The highest CPU I have is a 68040 so I'd be willing to pay to upgrade. It would be interesting to see how running your 680x0 classic apps on OS4.x via UAE would compare to running it directly on the 68060. _________________ A4000(T), A3000, A2000, A1200(T), A1200, CD32, Minimig+ARM, FPGA Arcade, Chameleon64, C-One, C128, C128D, C64C, C64, VIC-20, CBM 8032, Efika. |

If they manage to get the card out + AOS4 on it, it might be interesting development platform towards other P10xx based PPC systems. _________________ - KimmoK // For freedom, for honor, for AMIGA // "priest" is just the RED goaul in me // The multicolor AmigaFUTURE IS NOW !! |

Same reason people buy C64 upgrades I suppose. The fun of tinkering with old hardware.

I think there's only one sane excuse for this, it's the same I used when getting me a DKB 3128 back in the days with some 64 MB of RAM: 'Not because I need it but because I can!'

It is neat but why PPC? There never was much software for PowerUp/WarpUp and those few PC ports always crashed or didnt have sound.
If it had 060 it could be the fastest Amiga in the market but in that picture I see that slow 040 only.

Are there PPC upgrades to C64?

OS4 has JIT, its called Petunia, I'm sure MorphOS has JIT as well. Maybe it would be possible to run OS3.x, OS4.x, & MorphOS on the same system. I don't think this card is going to be cheap though, if it comes out._________________ X1000! Party on Pure Gold Hate tends to make you look stupid... |

Well poetically its possible to run EUAE PowerPC JIT engine on PowerPC chip, when its done, then the 040 CPU can be turned of all the time even when your running classic AmigaOS3.9, maybe 68040 can be removed in newer version cut costs. _________________ Software developer and forum troll. 68020 and 030 is too slow to play MP3, and 68060 are expensive and hard too find, so 68040 is logical choice, ColdFire can't work because source code to kickstart rom is not open source, and AROS 68k is too slow as you know.
