| Well its been a couple months still not one word of this magical Amiga os4 laptop. Many months have passed since we were told "its running now" and we have not seen one screen shot, hw pic, or news story.. amazing. |

I am hoping that Hyperion will satisfy your need for information by posting some pictures/videos of the Netbook by the end of this month. I won't be surprised if they announce that the writing of drivers for it is behind schedule and that they do not expect to begin sales until the 3rd, or 4th quarter of 2012, or even later than that.
As has happened in the past, the Hyperion announcement of the Netbook seems to have been premature. Even though I don't plan on buying one for myself, I do hope they become available for sale soon to help increase the number of OS4.x users by a hundred or more, and hopefully also increase the number of OS4.x programmers by 5 or more. We really need more software and OS4.x programmers who continually produce new software titles for OS4.x compatible computers. _________________ What are you doing to make the Amiga community a better place? |

| At this rate by the time its ready the people who make them will have discontinued the product and moved on to something else, which will of course cause more delays so the replacementss hardware can be supported, which will take so long to support that the hardware will stop being developed and so on and so forth :)

Unless the manufacturer of these Netbooks, or Hyperion, is going to repackage these EXISTING NETBOOKS, into new cases with larger LCD screens, we might end up getting these existing Netbooks with nothing more than a sticker on them to designate them as being an AmigaOne Netbook and nothing more than the original manufacturer's model that is now running OS4.x in addition to what ever it was running before Hyperion decided to port OS4.x to them.
If cost is a primary concern (which does not seem to have been the primary concern of Hyperion in choosing which hardware to port OS4.x to in the past), then Hyperion might choose to just use the existing NOS Netbooks with a sticker covering the original manufacturer's identifying labels. If Hyperion's primary concern is to hide the fact that these Netbook's are nothing more than rebadged Netbook's that were manufactured a few years ago, they might decide to spend the extra money that would be required to repackage them in different cases with larger LCD displays, and might also decide to pay for a redesign to allow more powerful CPU's and/or more system RAM, to differentiate these Netbook's from the original existing Netbook's that were chosen last year as a target to port OS4.x to by Hyperion and announced at the 2011 AmiWest Show.
It was made clear at that announcement during the 2011 AmiWest Show that these Netbook's were an existing product that was already available (possibly for purchase at that time, or if not currently selling, then at least in production as test samples, if not in production for sales to the public), as a finished product. Since the exact specifications have not been released by Hyperion, it leaves the door open for either scenario to happen and since the hints about certain specifications of components do not match completely with any existing Netbook that has been for sale to the public, it also lends itself to the possibility of a repackaged existing product, or an existing product that never made it to market, but was completed through the sample production stage, which made several prototype systems available to Hyperion so they could do their porting work and testing.
In response to fishy_fiz comment above, my first impression when the announcement was made last Oct. and it was made clear that the product was already existing, I thought that it might be a discontinued product that has several hundred, or maybe even a couple thousand New Old Stock systems that Hyperion can purchase and resell, but I have no evidence that my first impression is true. It was just a thought that ran through my head at the time, and something that I still see as one possibility, of the many possibilities that will hopefully be revealed within the next 30 days, and will be available for sale to the Amiga community within the next 6 months. In other words, IMO, if the Netbook was already existing some months before the Oct. 2011 announcement was made, there is a very high probability that it will be out of production and the manufacturer will have moved on to something else, by the time Hyperion is finished with the device drivers and the port of OS4.x to this Netbook computer is completed. So, IMO, there is a very good chance that fishy_fiz statement about the Netbook being out of production before Hyperion can complete the port of OS4.x. If this is not a product where many existing Netbooks are in stock for future Hyperion sales and production ends because of a change to a new product, before Hyperion can complete the porting and begin sales to the Amiga community, it could cause further delays, if Hyperion then needs to port to the new product, instead of this existing Netbook that they are working on now.
Only time will show us which speculations are correct and which are only incorrect guesses.Last edited by amigadave on 05-Jun-2012 at 03:03 AM.

MOS laptop was shown about four years ago. Still not out in public. Is that strange to you?
To me neither that is strange.
@amigadave
I think it's up to the OEM to tell more about the HW and it's availability.
(to my understanding, limePC HW is available from china according to orders ... 1k being the minimum order... perhaps)
Some amigasales person @ ebay already sells limePC HW + AmigaHW. I think that might be the mysterious "OEM".
Update: More about the netbook while we wait.... Last edited by KimmoK on 05-Jun-2012 at 07:36 AM. Last edited by KimmoK on 05-Jun-2012 at 07:16 AM. Last edited by KimmoK on 05-Jun-2012 at 07:15 AM. Last edited by KimmoK on 05-Jun-2012 at 07:14 AM.

I have great respect towards what MOS team has achieved so far. But even for them/you it takes time to get things out.
I bet "to make it work perfectly" is also part of the reason why it has taken so long and that lack of documentation make it a hard reverse-engineering work. (PowerBook version was shown in public at least in 2009)
For limebook, they should have access to all documentation and the HW is little simpler than powerbook. And I think Hyperion outputs public SW versions in earlier maturity state than MOS team (they need to be nice to HW firms trying to sell those HWs, while MOS HW is not "in production"& commersially sold).
Anyway... To me it is a little miracle if Hyperion gets AOS(beta) for netbook out during this summer. Most likely alpha will be demoed anyway. _________________ - KimmoK // For freedom, for honor, for AMIGA // "priest" is just the RED goaul in me // The multicolor AmigaFUTURE IS NOW !! |

| I believe AmigaOS 4.2 is going to be a paid update (not sure), so if this is the case why release a netbook with OS4.1.4 or 4.1.5 and then a few months later expect them to pay for an OS update?
Surely it makes more sense to have a fully optimised OS 4.2 with the release of the netbook. _________________ 2x A500 (1x 1MB) OS1.3 1x A600 (40MB HDD) OS2.05 2xA1200 (68020 8MB Fast RAM) OS3.9 1x CDł˛ 1 AmigaOne G4XE (OS4 Pre-Release Update4) Minimig Sam440ep + OS4.1.5 |
