| Then why do they insist on their closed-source model with the license fees? |
The developers own "their" code, releasing it under an open source license would make them feel like throwing it in the dustbin.
There are gigabytes of Amiga source that will never be released to the public, even if the software license was changed to freeware or is not sold any more. There is a bigger chance the sources are lost for ever than that they will appear under an open source licence. Just think about the possibilities if Wordworth or Finalwriter would become open source but it will never happen._________________ TheDaddy: (Finally) I removed the A1200 motherboard from its (ugly) shell and put it inside the Power Tower.

Incouraging the team for meeting? Maybe discussing the future of each platform.
Onestly speaking, everyone should have look at their own limits.

Open Source = No value.
It make more sense to put part under LGLP or GPL. _________________ Software developer and forum troll. Please check out my software: Excalibur, Basilisk 2, AmigaInputAnywhere. |

Regarding Finalwriter I had contact to Softwood some years ago. It seems that it is impossible to make it Opensource or Freeware because parts are licensed. So no hope there. Amigawriter is still property of Mr. Haage so it could be sold (but not Freeware or Opensource either) |

I have my doubts the source belongs to Softwood, it might belongs to one ore more developers. Depnding on the contracts between developers and Softwood, the developer might own the source license but could not release the source without an OK from Softwood.
So open sourcing an existing project will be neraly impossible.
Now think at MorphOS or AmigaOS4. MUI still belongs to Stephan Stunz only he can put it into the open Source, the kernel belongs to Ralph 'Laire' Schmidt and CGX4 belongs to Frank Mariak. You will need an OK from all of them just for this four parts. On AOS4 we have the same problem, according to the Friedens the Kernel belongs to them, parts of the Sourcecode of the OS might still belong to Amiga Inc. or could at least not put into Open Source without their OK. And there are drivers that still might be under a source licence of other developers.
So all this closed source OSes could not go open source just because some people in the team want to.

| Phew... with a title like "It's time to join the forces", I though uh oh, another ruddy world war has broken out while I had a wee nap after my supper and now they've put the call out for everyone to sign up and join the armed services...
Thankfully it's wasn't and I can go back to sleep now safe in the knowledge that I don't have to dig out me old Dads Army uniform again...

| It's funny to see that the "lets join forces" threads are always started by people who arent doing the work theyre wanting people to share.
Not to mention that (Ive said this many times) there's already about as much co-operation as is reasonably possible. A lot of developers talk amongst themselves, and help each other out, even though from different camps.
Exactly what is it that you want co-operation with? Do you even know?
