Hey there, i will need some help with some stuff.. mostly software.

i'm almost very new in the "NG" Amiga.. and i have some money to use, (not lot:)

but this is my hobby, and it was more than just a hobby for me.. my Life!

This life was ended January 2000, i had then 3x1200 and a3000 a4000
(in the start amiga500&a500+)

my two main computer back then was A1200 68060 66mhz 32mb kick.3.1 os3.9
and i had an a4000 big tower 68040 25mhz with ppc 604e 230mhz 64mb kick 3.1 os.3.9

my goal was graphic card.. but it never happened.. so i sold everything at half price. just to get it sold.. i had not lost interest in amiga or hardware.. but the battle for gfx card was great.. i did't had that kind of money ether..

but i was active on the net, for the news.. some forum, so i have been with you all when the good stuff & bad stuff have happend.

so now, i'm back.. i bought a new sam460ex.. have donated, mony for many software i think its important, and i have order many things from Sweden, UK, Italia and Germany.. for this new amiga hobby startup.


i have build my Sam460ex tower.. the hardware setup, was very easy.. only problem wast to get a compatible soundcard.. but now im using the onbord sound.. its perfect for me now.. using official mouse&keyboard 1Tb 2.5" serial ata disk and a serial ata dvd-rom (using adapter USB2-Searial ata) and off course x1650 gfx card.. i ordered many other cards, used... they all worked like it should..but din't fit in the case..but thats okay..

next step was to config my os 4.1, this is my main hobby.. get things to loog great.. and stable.. testing things out.. i miss DirectoryOpus 5.6 :(

i know about the 3d support.. so i'm not gonna write about that..


the reason for me to do this on a forum is becourse most good amiga people are here.. i have read almost everything that have came up for years, another reason.. things are a little difficult in some areas. like "libs and different small files that must be found else where when you installing software.. things like this make me be some what lost..
i'm not 15-20 years any more.. i haven't got it just yet.. so i have not used the machine in a while. but i want so much.

like mui for os4.. i see the mui sasg page has come online again, but how to register my mui on os4.1.. i want to use the whole mui thing on workbench..

i tried scummvm with any luck.. this is important..

and WHD Load, i would like to use this.. but is it only for os3.1? when i install
os4.1.4, the they ask me to consider register to WHD Load.. where? how to use?

Rdeskop.. i have a network at home in gigabit.. 4x windows7,1x morphos3,1xlinux and the amigaone.. is it so it wil not work with win7? i don't use the network home stuff that win7 have as default.. and no password/decryption

as i have understood, there is two types of emulation for 68000 games..
witch are the best.. (manly games) and do this work only in a workbenh window? or
can i have full screen to?

there is some games for sale, but it needs 68020 or better.. ppc and rtg is recommended.. does this mean that i could make this game work on my ppc amigaone?

and.. to the money question.. where can i order some games and apps.. i have bought all i need from amigakit,versalia,GGS and ebay,finn.no..qxl..
just yester day, i have bought DVPlayer with wapview..


have soo many questions, but i cant remeber..

I belive that scumvm should be quite trivial to setup?

Whdload is 68k only

Two types emulation means that all (most) of sytem friendly programs should work with cpu emulator build in AOS4. It doesn't emulate original customs chips of amiga, for that you need UEA

There are several solutins to run uea directly??

Welcome back! Your story sounds like many of us here & all I can say is once an amigan always one I got back into my Amiga with my old Samflex when it was first introduced & the fun came back into computing for me.

The Sam460ex is a sweet OS4.x machine that should allow you to run most of your 68k stuff via either glUAE or RunInUAE seamlessly with just a double click. Have fun playing with your new Amiga & ask every question you have along the way & soon enough it'll all flow back to you

for currently available commercial games running on OS4.1 check out all the games by AmiBoing, BOH (top down retro dungeon adventure), 1941-Extreme DX-Dual (remake of classic), WordMeUpXXL & more that I'm sure others in this thread will mention.

I'd also recommend installing AmiCygnix to use GNumeric (modern spreadsheet) & AbiWord (word processor), Gimp etc. Linux Debian dual booting on my old Samflex was also fun to mess around with & I'm sure it runs that much nicer on the speedier 460ex

Welcome! I'm glad you have come back to the best computer ever! A great deal of the fun of an Amiga, at least for me, is to discover all the tricks bout how to make everything work!
Search Amigaworld.net forums for info on how to download and add libraries for DVplayer so it will play the encoded DVDs. And always take a look at Os4 depot to see what sort of things are showing up new. Also, i recommend RuninUAE (which comes with 4.1 update 4) as a great way to run old 68k apps full screen transparently. Remember though, a number of great Amiga programswork using Petunia, the Os4 built in 68k emulator - such as Final Writer, Final Data, KingCON, Digita Organizer, Aladdin 4D 5.0, Dynacalc, Art Effect, Image Studio, Pro Calc, Turbo Calc, Lightwave 5.1 (and 5.2), Amiga Writer, turbo Text, Wordworth, Superbase 4, Photogenics, Personal Paint and lots more!

I have never registered MUI, it works ok for now since ther are not so many programs that use it on AmigaOS 4.1

I have Scummvm installed and it works without problem (I'm even using the Roland MT-32 sound emulation and it's perfect). Where do you stop exactly ?

With AmigaOS 4.1 Update 4, RunInUAE is indeed provided. Registering WHDload won't prevent games form loading, you'll just get a longer wainting time befor the game is launched. You can register it on this link.

When installing RunInUAE, a WB 3.1 partition drawer is created and is used by RunInUAE. UAE is an emulation package which will let you play all your PCS/ECS/AGA games in an emaulated environment. RunInUAE allows you to do this easily (just double click on a WHDload game icon and you'll see the game appear on you display ).

Indeed, there are two emulation methods in Amiga OS 4.1.

One is called Petunia and is a 68xxx JIT (Justi In Time) emulator, it is integrated in AmigaOS 4.1. It allows you to load 68xxx programs that do not need any custom chipset (such as AGA, Paula, etc...) on Amiga OS4 in a transparent way. For example you can load IBrowse, AWeb, TurboPrint ou some games such as Foundation or Earth 2140. Just double click on the program you want to load.

The other one is E-UAE helped by RunInUAE which goal is to launch old games/demos. To recah this goal, it's not only a matter of just emaulating 68xxx instructions but alos a whole computer. So it's more demanding regarding power but on the Sam460 it should work without too much trouble.

RunInUAE works in fullscreen. Just try it, you'll ses how it's simple.

If it needs PowerPC, there is an emulation of WarpOS with AmigaOS 4 but I can't tell if all the games will work correctly. For 68020, it will be ok.

the linux distro im not sure about. i have already a linux x86 machine.. but maybe i test it some day.

yes, you are correct that amiga is the most fun too use.. nowdays, windows just works, nothing to do in it.. it dosen't give me what i need.. only for web and movies.. so that will do as my mediacenter.. if i want to play games, i just use xbox.. but computer stuff today isn't fun anymore.. i have been learning network for some time, but it will come too a point that everyting work perfectly.. now what !! thats why amiga is in my home again.

yes, i think my sam460ex is nice, using silverstone htpc with samsung 24" fullhd.. everthing for the amiga is new..

about warp3d, will it alow me to play quake,wipeout or other games like this?

mui is installed by defaul in os4, but only limited to make software work.. i want to change things.. this is fun:)

i only tried to install scummvm two times.. but it would't start becourse off missing files, i think in old os4 installs you have collected a number of libraryes and other "must have" files for so long that you never notice when a software needs them.. but i starts with fresh os4 install and needs every thing.. look at the people writing in the osdepo/scummvm.. the library is missing.. if i remember it correct..

okay.. so whd load is for games inside the two emulation solution then? thanks for the link:)

i dont remeber the games right now..but im going to make a small list.. so maybe i can get some of them work. gonna test 68k software and games for tes, to se if i can manage too run them native on os4..

this is why i like the amiga community.. wow!! thanks for every thing.. this helps alot. right now im typing on my galaxy s3 at work.. i'm a seaman, working in the northsea.. in two weeks im going home.. if it is bad weather.. amiga is the first choice, but you know, it's summer right now.

I'm using Rdesktop at home to remote-control the XP-PC underneath my desk from my A4kPPC with OS 3.9 for a couple of yerars now and have to say it works like a charm.

I don't know about Win7 - if you have questions regarding RDesktop and Win7 you should ask Darren Eveland - he's the maintainer of the Amiga version of RDesktop.
When I had some problems initially to set up RDesktop properly he gave very good support.

Hollywood seems like multimedia programming language (LUA based), but with Hollywood Designer you can do presentations a little bit like with PowerPoint, but with HW you can compile executables almost for any desktop OS platform + mobile devices.
