IMHO, most of those iOS conversions are blatant rip-offs. How do you play a game like Alien Breed using a touch screen as your main input device? You don't, IMHO. You just buy it out of nostalgia...
And while today's focus on casual gamers ("walk three steps, save, walk three steps..") has already turned most mainstream games into better slideshows, this approach is even worse (quoting from the article): "players can purchase items from an in-game store to help them advance".

For me its more of nostalgia like you said. I almost never play games on mobilephone. Specially games that are made for a joypad/stick/mouse-keyboard etc. However games like Wordfeud and similar are ok but i deinstalled them as it took too much of my sparetime. Nostalgic only to show friends etc :) I rather spend my money on amiga bounties. Last edited by Kicko on 11-Jul-2012 at 05:38 PM. Last edited by Kicko on 11-Jul-2012 at 05:38 PM.

I have no problems playing with touch controls, maybe I'm used to it. Sure some games are made for physical pads, but you can easily play on he go with a touch screens at least if it is sensitive as the iPhone's one. Also devs could support iCade, there is a portable version which gives you dpad and buttons and fit your iPhone as cover.
Anyway I will buy it for sure just for nostalgia ;)

That sucks... my iPad is a 1st gen so I won't be able to download it. Oh well I have them anyway on my HxC and on real disk ;)_________________ Writer for Commodore Is Awesome. ========================================== |

| I agree, for the most part ports of old games or control methods born with a controller/joystick in mind are quite horrible when translated to touch-based devices, there are notable exceptions on iOS imho, such as Llamasoft titles. However, I'm more interested in games designed from scratch for these devices, that takes into consideration touch-bases inputs from the beginning (Tiny Wings anyone?). However the nostalgia factor kicks pretty hard on things like this Alien Breed port, Speedball II Evolution and such. Still waiting for Stunt Car Racers, Blood Money, Benefactor and... Too many to mention? BTW, what happened to Manomio's iAmiga or Tower Studios (http://www.tower-studios.co.uk/)? Speaking of TS, John Hare was supposed to bring on some more Bitmap Brothers classics, can't wait!

Last year at the r3play event in Blackpool I was talking to the Team17 devs about their PC Alien Breed trilogy. They told me that they would be prepared to offer the source to anyone who wanted to create an OS4 version.
I have no idea if this is even feasible, but they definitely offered it.

The game does support the iCade arcade sticks/box for the iPad, which would make it worthwhile.
I'm not a big smartphone gamer though, despite owning a bunch on my Android phone. It's just not the same as sitting down at a computer IMO. |

Dear Team 17,
Please port all old AB (AB SE, AB II SE, AB TA) and 3D as bonus for Windows, Linux, MacOS X, AmigaOS4, MorphOS and AROS.
Later 3 ports are NOT commercialy viable, but first two can support it.
A single DVD or download would be maestral. With today hardware maybe 3D versions could use some optimized UAE ports and it would be great if 3D ones would be native on later 3 as added value.
