I'll hopefully receive mine by the end of the week, finally!

Anyone here managed to get PUAE working on Raspeberry Pi?

On a side note, found an UAE4ALL build made by user balrogsoft on the Rasp forum:

Quote:
I have received my Raspberry Pi this week, and i finally managed to get UAE4all working on RPi, i made a build with my experimental version that uses SDL overlay, this versions requires a ROM file called kick.rom and a disk file called df0.adf. This build wasn't very optimized, so don't expect that it will work nice with all games, exists other versions of UAE4all with a cpu core coded in arm assembler for GP32, so maybe it could be usefull for Rasperry Pi. On my RPi Debian setup, it works at fullscreen if it's executed without starting x windows.

Shortcuts:
TAB+R = Reset
TAB+Q = Quit
Emulated joystick = Cursors + Right Shift

Looking forward to start playing with the damn thing!

@Shufflepuck

Unless a little retrogaming is your only interest in uae on Pi dont expect too much. Even 68000/ocs games need a frame or 2 skipped, and sound has issues.
It simply doesnt have the cpu grunt UAE requires.
Having said that, if 68000/ocs games are your interest, and you dont mind skipping some frames you might reap some amiga fun from it.

After seeing it in action though Ive decided I might wait for 2nd version of the Pi (or whatever else thats similar, but at least 2x as powerful) comes out before I start thinking about using one as the basis for a dedicated emulated amiga system. Perhaps a cheapo laptop or netbook from ebay with a busted screen might be a decent choice too.
Pi should still be a good base for some other systems though for someone who has an interest in making a dedicated emulation box. Personally I want to build myself a Coco3 box with one :)

Yep, I'm not expecting much from a 700Mhz CPU emulation-wise, but it would be nice to be able to fire up the occasional Rick Dangerous or Speedball II

Eager to try out the new Raspbian image, which takes full advantage of the Raspberry Pi’s floating point hardware, maybe it'll be usable.

BTW, used AspireOnes from eBay are great for a dedicated emulation box

Cheers,
SP

@Shufflepuck

Coincidently Speedball2 was one of the games that worked best of the handful I tried.
I was surprised to see SOTB3 worked reasonably well too (but needed some frameskip for full speed).
Battle Squadrom thankfully wasnt very fast. I didnt like that game back in the heyday, so cant say I was disappointed or else my friend wouldve played it to death like he did back then, much to my chagrin :)
Megaphoenix was ok too, but again required some frames skipped.

Was a pretty nostalgic day though. I used to play a lot of amiga games with the friend who got his Pi, so was fun to do it again 20ish years later. I also got to rediscover Warlords :) (which incidently ran well enough to omitt frame skips, although Im not sure if it was fullspeed 'cos of the gamestyle). Fun game either way :)

Except DOS version.

Pi is nice hardware, but certainly not powerful enough for Amiga emulation.

I would recommend:
1) smallest possible emulated screen size (320x200)
2) 8 bit screen resolution
3) Frame skip 2
4) low sound frequency (or disabled sound emulation)

Such configuration should work for most OCS games even on Pi (if one doesn´t mind limited visual and audio experience...).
