| ... my AmigaOne 500 arrived! So soon, I only ordered it from Germany on friday, I am not ready! How unconveniently efficient by the norwegian customs, for once. I don't have the surge arrest plugs, antistatic equipment or the pedestal on which it will gloriously stand, emitting its benevolent shine upon the undeserving

That was indeed pretty fast! I remember having to wait ages for my old SAM440EP to arrive due to the Norwegian customs. :( Anyway, congratulations! Hope you'll have fun with it! |

My mistake, order was made last friday and the Amiga was shipped from Vesalia the 19th. Still, pretty fast!
Anyways, I'm gonna take my chance, surge arrest or no surge arrest. I have gotten the impression that modern Amiga hardware is not really the most "hardy" hardware out there, but surely it is not made of porcelein either. I hope :S _________________ OS4.1u6 on AmigaOne 500, 1.15GHz, 2GB, Radeon HD4650, SM502 sound, 64GB SSD + 500GB HDD |

| Wow, that was quick and painless. Just plug it in and play! Perhaps a bit bewildering that I could not choose "Broadband" as internet connection, since that is what I have. Instead I had to choose LAN? Oh well. Works like a charm! :D
Posting from OWB. Now to test DVD functionality. If it "passes the test", I have found my new living room computer, because this thing is silent :)
Edit: silent indeed, I can't get any sound :S

Is that what I have to do to get sound? :P
There is no plug for connecting sound in the back of the machine, but one for headphones in the front. I have connected my headphones and started AHI. But no matter what option I select, I get no sound. Any ideas?? _________________ OS4.1u6 on AmigaOne 500, 1.15GHz, 2GB, Radeon HD4650, SM502 sound, 64GB SSD + 500GB HDD |

Hehe, you now have the most important piece of equipment at home, the rest is easier to purchase nearby

There is an audio plug at the back of the board, it's near the two USB ports, please check again _________________ Massimiliano Tretene, ACube Systems, Soft3 |

... I inserted the mouse/keyboard first, and that little spec of a connector simply vanished below them.
But I still get no sound. I tried testing with Tunenet. I downloaded an MP3. Tunenet told me I needed to install mpega-library and directed me to its download page. I downloaded it and installed it... and after that Tunenet will crash when "opening media". Last edited by Androxyn on 24-Jul-2012 at 02:57 PM.

Cool, now I get sound. Strange that the driver was not installed by default though.
It seems there is a lot of static/distortion in the sound, is this due to bad driver or perhaps something I can fix?
Btw, in AHI Prefs the sound is very loud. Everywhere else, like Sound Prefs, TuneNet and games, the sound is very low
Can someone with an AmigaOne 500 confirm that it is possible to have proper sound on this machine?
On the bright side I got the Netgear WNCE2001 ethernet-to-WIFI-thing to work. Last edited by Androxyn on 24-Jul-2012 at 06:19 PM. Last edited by Androxyn on 24-Jul-2012 at 04:03 PM.

On my A1XE (with Creative SandBlaster (TM) sound card) I found that the digital inputs had the level set quite high, by default. This picked up a lot of computer electrical noise. I'm not even sure if the digital input is brought out on a hardware port.
Anyway, run mixer (it's a commodity) and make sure any record ports you don't use (especially if they are not implemented!) have the level set at zero.

I have static and distortion in the sound on mine too. They say the latest driver fixes it but that doesn't seem to be the case for me anyway. I suggest just hanging on until a better driver comes along, or looking at alternative sound options. My friend and I (both new A1/500 owners) are looking for a viable solution to our sound problem and may be on to a solution now. We will share our findings hopefully soon. |

Can you confirm that the onboard soundchip should be able to produce perfect sound with the latest drivers?
Or is the onboard soundchip "broken hardware" which you are trying to patch your way around, so far unsuccessfully? Because the latest driver did not work out for me, even though I followed the instructions to the point.
I love OS4 and the "feel" of the machine, but broken sound is a deal breaker. _________________ OS4.1u6 on AmigaOne 500, 1.15GHz, 2GB, Radeon HD4650, SM502 sound, 64GB SSD + 500GB HDD |
