| I'm sorry for reposting about my problem, but I wanted to differentiate this issue from my personal introduction post of yesterday.
I'm having difficulties to connect to Internet:
After several attempts and using different approaches yesterday,, I managed to connect to Internet and use OWB. In fact, I did some Internet surfing for a while until I reset my computer and lost my Internet connection again.
At least now I know that my Ethernet board/card is working; something the previous owner has confirmed too.
The error messages that I'm getting are: Mon July 23 22:08:36 2012 [error]: Interface "PPC440EP_ETH" configuration failed with station address = 00:50:C2:80:D4:12 (5,10193, Bad address, Unknown SANA-II wire error 10193). Mon July 23 22:08:36 2012 [error]: Could not add route from "DEVS:Internet/routes", line 4 (Network is unreachable). Another message I get at times is the that the "PPC440EP_ETH file already exist,: even though I have deleted it manually from DEVS:Net....
These are the same error messages that I was having before I got connected the first time. I believe it's just a matter of configuration, but like I have already explained, I'm new to the Amiga OS4.1 world.
Could anyone one please guide me how to do a complete new Internet connection configuration? and perhaps delete any previous configuration that may be causing some conflicts? Please keep in mind that I'm new and I may need step by step instructions. Thanks in advance for any help and your patience with me.
P.S. One final question: Once I get the Internet going, is there anyway to save the settings I used, so I don't have to go through all the hassle of setting up all over again? _________________ Abusing: Amiga 1200 (3.1, 80GB HDD & EasyNet), Mac Mini 1.5GHz, 1GB RAM, 250 GB HDD w/Morphos 3.1 & Pack Ultimate) & Acer Aspire One ZG5 with Icaros Desktop 1.5.2 |

From the error message you get, it seems you are using the wrong ethernet driver, on the Sam460ex you have to use the ppc460ex_eth.device, not the ppc440ep_eth.device_________________ Massimiliano Tretene, ACube Systems, Soft3 |

| @m3x Sorry, my bad. It was a typo. I double checked and I'm in deed using "PPC460EP_ETH"

My says this: # DEVS:NetInterfaces/Home # File generated by Internet 53.2 (27.9.2009) # On Monday, 23-Jul-12 at 10:23:00 device=ppc460ex_eth.device hardwaretype=Ethernet configure=dhcp mtu=0
But I don't know how to edit and replace as needed. I'm sorry but I'm a new user.
Could someone please give me step by step instructions on how to fix this?
BTW, my Internet is working now, and so it was yesterday, but when I power off and reboot, I have to do all over again and try several different configurations before regaining Internet connection again.
Is there a way to save my settings, so that the next time I either power off or rest I don't have to start all over again? _________________ Abusing: Amiga 1200 (3.1, 80GB HDD & EasyNet), Mac Mini 1.5GHz, 1GB RAM, 250 GB HDD w/Morphos 3.1 & Pack Ultimate) & Acer Aspire One ZG5 with Icaros Desktop 1.5.2 |

Don't use the internet wizard delete your config files, start over. They are some where in devs:
use sys:prefs/internet program to configure you network. _________________ Software developer and forum troll. Please check out my software: Excalibur, Basilisk 2, AmigaInputAnywhere. |

I believe that was the option that worked for me, but I still have the issue that when I reset the machine or do a hard reboot, I lose the Internet configuration and I have to start all over again.
Sometimes backtracking the steps that I used to configured wouldn't work, as in the first time. Then I need to keep trying over and over again. Sometimes, I even get error messages when using the system: prefs/Internet, but then after several attempts I launch OWB and boom... it works. It's quite unpredictable.
So is there a way to save my settings now that it's working?

Whatever you do don't use the setup wizard it is broken, I could never get it to work correctly!
I suggest you set in up manually via prefs/Internet Preferences, mine is set up as follows:
Name: PPC460EX_ETH Device driver: Devs:Networks/ppc460ex_eth.device Device type: Ethernet Unit/Port: 0
IP address: BLANK (I believe you put your IP setting in here) Subnet mask: BLANK (as above) Ticked=Try dynamic configuration (DHCP)
Hostname: BLANK IP packet type:2048 (greyed out)
When I was with BT for my internet use I had to reset network every time I booted system but after changing to O2 everything has been okay, I don't know why but that's what happened!

I didn't change the mtu settings. I guess it was generated automatically. Besides, I don't know where or how to change it.......? _________________ Abusing: Amiga 1200 (3.1, 80GB HDD & EasyNet), Mac Mini 1.5GHz, 1GB RAM, 250 GB HDD w/Morphos 3.1 & Pack Ultimate) & Acer Aspire One ZG5 with Icaros Desktop 1.5.2 |

Don't use the same IP as other equipment.
Only the gateway should be the same and it should be the same IP as your router, the DNS server IP can be the same as Router in some cases and some case not, if not check whit your ISP, or if you have windows PC, you can check your configuration there, but do not use the same IP on your Amiga as on your PC, if don't know what the heck your doing stick whit DHCP.
Normally a IP address is like this
a.b.c.d
where a.b.c is the network address and d is the computer number,” a”,”b,”c” most be the same for all computers, but “d” can not be, typical netmask is 255.255.255.0, if its wrong you can get some funky effects.
So if your network is 10.0.0.X then all computer most be 10.0.0.X
Router: IP: 10.0.0.1 (1 is typical for router/ gateway) Computer 1: IP: 10.0.0.2 Computer 2: IP: 10.0.0.3
if Computer 1 and Computer 2 has same IP, that's called a IP conflict and that’s bad, because if a sender tries to send to that IP, and network communication will most likely go to the wrong computer.
Same thing for 192.168.0.X network.
Hope this makes sense.

If you don't get any internet on boot in might be that some thing is wrong in S:Startup-sequence, there should be a line there about add interface, your computer might startup slowly if do not have DHCP server in your network, or if configured some thing wrong, in any case text will be shown in window about what that problem is. _________________ Software developer and forum troll. Do not edit configuration files manually, the file you quoted is generated and might be replaced automatically.
the MTU should not be needed to changed keep it at default. Last edited by NutsAboutAmiga on 24-Jul-2012 at 06:46 PM.

This I knew, so I used the proper addresses when I tried to configure manually. But I used the automatic configuration, when I created a new connection in sys:prefs/Internet
When I reboot I get the following message: Mon Jul 23 21:24:34 [error] [error]: Could not add route from "DEVS:Internet/routes", line 4 (Network is unreachable).
So, I have to go back and configure all over again.
Could you please tell me how to check and fix as needed the startup sequence to avoid this problem?
Would you mind giving me step by step instructions since I'm just taking my first baby steps with OS4.1?
Thanks.

DEVS:Internet/routes
well delete that file, and setup your gateway whit sys:prefs/internet application.
Don't touch startup-sequence before you have tried that.
(Routes are auto generated, gateways has to be configured unless your using DHCP.) Last edited by NutsAboutAmiga on 24-Jul-2012 at 07:09 PM.

I'm sorry, but I can't find this path: "DEVS:Internet/routes "
Could you please explain what do you mean by: "delete that file, and setup your gateway whit sys:prefs/internet application."
BTW, the connection I created last night, which I called "Home" is still working, but that's it because I haven't rebooted my system since the last time I made the Internet work. In fact, I'm writing this reply in my SAM460.

| @WeiXing3D Today I reset my machine and as predicted, I got all those error messages mentioned before. I noticed though this time, that inside the drawer DEVS:Netinterfaces, there are two icons: the connection named "PPC460EX_ETH" and a text script named "Home." I understand PPC460EX_ETH is the one I created when I launch Prefs:Internet, etc. And Home is the script with details of the connections; am I right?
So, I went ahead and created a new connection, since Internet was not working again. I used Prefs:Internet, but interesting enough "Home" was still listed under "Interfaces." I don't know why it's not using it by defaut when starting or rebooting."
Anyways, I went ahead and deleted the existing "Home" connection and creted a new one from scratch Trying Dynamic Configuration. After a few error messages and the system building the new stack, I closed the command windows that opened, and launched OWB....Voila...I've got Internet up and running again.
What's going on? Do I always have to follow the same procedure to be able to connect to Internet? Is there anyway to get the sytems use "Home" (the newly created interface, by default when booting up?
Please help....! I'm confused and overwhelmed.
NOTE: I found that I still have PPC460EX_ETH under Interfaces in Prefs:Internet, even thought I had deleted it before, since I understood that that was the connection the previous owner of this computer was using. Is this normal? Does it have anything to do with my problem?

No, of course not. But nevertheless there's something borked at your system or you're doing something wrong. But we don't know what it is. And it's really not easy to spot from outside what exactly is wrong. _________________ X1000|II/G4|440ep|2000/060|2000/040|1000 |

The truth is, as I explained in my first introductory post in this forum, I just received my system yesterday, Monday afternoon (I'm almost one day behing here in the Pacific West coast).
I bought the system as pre-owned from another user. From the moment I first connected I got these Internet connection error messages.
All I have done so far, and that's following the recommendations and advice of other fellow forum members, because this is my first ever experience with OS4.1, was to create a new connection from Prefs:Internet, using "Try Dynamic Configuration (DHCP)"
So, I haven't done anything on my own. This being the reason why I am asking for help. I don't want to create a bigger mess.
In my humbe understanding, the previous owner was using the system with his own Internet configuration, which for obvious reason doesn't work for me.
For me my system is still a blank canvas, since I have't used any other things or functionalities, besides surfing the net with OWB, after I managed to connect to Internet. Then again, I still get the error messages afore mentioned, when I reboot or boot up fresh.
Can I get some help?

Do you know the Address of your router ? If you know it or can find it out then you could set it in Prefs:Internet . In the Routes section Default Gateway.
You can check the default gateway if you have a connetion by opening a CLI and typing shownetstatus like this.
10.WorkBench:> shownetstatus Network status summary Local host address = 192.168.10.7 (on interface 'Eth0') Default gateway address = 192.168.10.1 Domain name system servers = 192.168.10.1, 205.160.233.2
In my casue I use a static ip address and my routers address is 192.168.10.1 which is the address set in the Default Gateway in the Prefs:Internet settings .
